But Thorburn WASN’T asked to choose between his faith and his job !!!
There was no problem with his personal religious beliefs. He was asked to stand down as head honcho of his church if he wanted to be CEO of Essendon Football Club.
He was entirely free to continue as an ordinary member of his church and be CEO of Essendon at the same time.
His ego wouldn’t let him. He’s one of these ego-driven individuals who has to be top dog of anything he’s involved in.
Ones beliefs should always be respected but they should remain yours and yours alone. Once you start to shove those beliefs down other peoples throats then as far as I’m concerned you lose all claims for discrimination based on those beliefs.
I understand your point ……but in this situation he was probably entitled to believe that Essendon did their due diligence via their consultants. I’d hate to say it; but it’s the club that failed to check everything on the public record
regardless of whether or not that’s true, if I sign a contract with my employer, and then they discover after the fact I have a second job, even though it’s on my LinkedIn, do you seriously think they’re not entitled to tell me there’s a conflict and I have to make a decision about where I work?
Yeh, I am a member x4 if we include family. I spend my money on the membership in exchange for its benefits. Game access etc.
I’m under no illusion that this money given to the club is “mine” or that im entitled to anything beyond what I have paid for. Nor am I going to be sweating the profit margins of a football club. If I was unhappy with the exchange, I would stop buying memberships.
Not correct and you disappoint, again.
Hirdy had a certain level of responsibility for the near destruction of EFC.
And suggesting that ‘he’ owned it is a cnt of a thing to say.
And there was no pleasure garnered from whatever separation payment that ensued from that near destruction.
