I do sometimes wonder if still having Sheeds even at the club hinders us. He is attached to the status quo of the club, the illusion that we are the big powerful club that inevitably wins flags. I really think we need to think outside the square on who we bring in. There are few coaching stars at the moment, they’re hard to find. I guess Bucks has potential to be, but hasn’t won a flag yet. Simpson maybe.
It seems different to the past when ruthless was seen as the virtue of a successful coach. Nowadays not being a cxxnt seems also a path.
Public cannoning
we need to change the game plan too.
we literally rely on running through the corridor at top speed to score goals.
As soon as a club stops us from doing that we cant score.
And it seems like more and more clubs are realising that and just flooding the middle.
I really wish we still had Hird
“Worsfold is not a gameday coach” Bomber Thompson.
Correct-a-mundo.
The notion of having Sheeds around is a valuable connection to an at times successful past. I think it’s important for players to have an appreciation of where the club has come from. I equally think and hope that he has limited involvement from a football decision making perspective. Socialite, ambassador, ideas man yes, but anything more than that is concerning. I’m still ambivalent in my feelings toward him. Remembered for holding on too long, and for screwing the list with horrific decisions on the way out overshadows some of the brilliant contribution he had as a multiple premiership coach and creator of Essendon’s powerhouse identity.
Too early to tap Woosha on the shoulder.
Narrow loss to Collingwood, some shocking decisions arguably cost EFC the game.
Losses to Geelong and narrowly to Swans after a a 5 day break without access to Brown, Daniher, Mckernan, Raz etc. Draper was a huge loss given he was earmarked for last Friday night to help Tbell. Would have kicked those goals that Clarke hopelessly missed.
He needs to make some tough calls, if not, anything less than still a chance to make finals at the bye will seal his fate.
It seems like you would derive some pleasure out of Worsfold getting SACKED.
If so, you are one sick unit, and more than likely have no redeeming qualities.
These are logical explanations and if this was a one off maybe they’d have some credence. It wasn’t a one off and they are just excuses for the real issues.
Watching the game Friday I didn’t once think it was tiredness from a short break or missing Daniher as the reasons we were being beaten. Good teams overcome this adversity and find a way to win.
What in his previous behaviour would indicate any propensity whatsoever to make tough calls?
Agree, it needs reminding that Sydney were 18th with 1 win, and had lost 9 of their last 10 games at the SCG. Surely we should have been good enough to prevail over that with the injuries we had?
When did he say this?
As I said, he needs to make some tough calls and if he doesn’t, his fate rests with the decisions he does or doesn’t make.
Well Francis didn’t look too energized, and I don’t think the list is good enough to “find a way to win” without unfettered access to McKernan, Brown, Raz, Daniher, Laverde etc.
5 day break.
Down 3 of our first choice forwards.
There is some valid reasons. But it’s not an excuse. Clubs are meant to train for all eventualities.
Oh you are still in the denial stage?
You poor bst@rd.
I’m here for you when you are ready to talk.
Yeah I would derive pleasure out of it. I don’t appreciate the club I love being terrible with no explanation as to why it’s happening
It’s the same spiel after every match. Zero honesty to the supporters
And yeah I am a sick unit, this flu has knocked me round
Effectively 3 games (2 games plus a lot of %) outside the top 6.
Yeah, we ain’t making finals let alone winning one. Odds say that the ladder is set after round 8, just the order of the current top 8 changes.
Really had a chance to do something, yet wasted it with the AFL plant.
They were also missing franklin and smith off the top
Of my head. Friday night was pathetic
The fact that it took so long to move Hooker forward, when it was as clear as day before the game how poorly our forward line was going to function, was a disgraceful piece of coaching.
It’s not like Hooker was even needed down back against Blakey, McCartin and Reid.
Instead they had Francis playing a lone hand out of position up front.
Worsfold had one of the best midfield
They coached themselves
We have a good midfield but they aren’t like the old wCE
We have broken down boring to watch. Carlton and Roos more exciting
We are bottom 4 no improvement on last year
Time for change
