Woosha – final moments or finals moment?

If you haven’t yet read it, see the “Something seriously wrong” thread, especially my post (#18) which explains how EFC has come to this sorry mess we see today.

Craig Bellamy publicly states he will get new players if the current players won’t stack up. Scores 60 odd points the following game.
Clarkson says they are middle of the road; drops underperforming champion player. Beats GWS the following game
Worsfold is disappointed

And plays the old players in the middle next game who suck. They proceeed to play for the rest of 2017/18 and now 2019z

Yeah but what about the last 15 years?

Yes but woosha believes good teams are player led. So players obviously let us down .

So what round will they pull the trigger? No way this team climbs out of this hole, I’m going with R20.

At a bare minimum that’s good that people internally know. Hopefully it can bring some action then

Mediocrity set in with Sheeds being given 1 contract too many.
Exacerbated by a parsimonious CEO and Board that wouldn’t invest in training facilities.
Knights cleaned the list out well and had the makings of a game plan but couldn’t handle/accept any feedback from the players on his game plans shortcomings and lost the players.
Hird, in my view was the wrong choice as senior coach at the time. Would have been better to have selected Mark Williams, who had been a premiership coach in modern times, knew the club well from his time as assistant and displayed real passion - with Hird as assistant. Bomber was a logical stop gap in 2014 and bringing Hird back with saga unresolved was a mistake (would have worked if the saga had been left with the AFL Tribunal decision). Worsfold was a good choice - especially with 2016 being impacted like it was - despite his limitations. He should not have got an extension in my view.

The other constant has been our recruiting - we have been perennially poor at contested ball and in the midfield which has limited us as much as all the above. Dodoro must bare some, thought not all (shared with the senior coaches) of the blame. We have not recruited anywhere enough contested ball types later in the draft and rookie draft preferring project players who have a low chance of working out and generally don’t. That was rectified the last 2-3 years by drafting Mutch and Dylan Clarke and trading in the likes of Devon Smith and Shiel. We need that thinking at least 5 years ago.

Which idiot suggested Sheedy coming back? Here we have a whole thread about Woosha playing favourites by not dropping under-performing senior players, and the solution to that is appointing a noted favourite-player? Gee whiz

I enjoyed your summations of the issues and reckon you are on the money. Based on that, there will be no success this year and Worsfold must go at seasons end. Finding a forward thinking coach is the issue however. Who is he? Where is he at, at the moment?

If Woosha goes he has to go when finals are no longer on the table, have an actor for a while then hopefully the new bloke for the last couple of games. Needs to be able to try a few and see who stays and goes.

Shiel smith and Heppell are top shelf

It’s more than players it’s the coaching staff

Combination of all 3 you’d think. Not having any talls up forward is obviously going to cause issues.

But we don’t seem to have a plan for what to do when our forward structure is absent or for when it breaks down, that is the coaches fault, both of them.

You sound like Derek Kickett.

Sounds like a cop out.

Hawthorn have great player-leaders on and off the field but Clarkson doesn’t sit on his hands and pass the buck on to those players.

A good coach would recognise that this playing group clearly cannot lead themselves with any sort of consistency.

A good coach would recognise that it is his job to actually, you know, coach

Clearly hes not a good coach

These guys are out there you just don’t find them unless you go through a proper, non bias selection process. Just like with clarkson, beveridge, simpson, pyke etc. Nobody knew these guys were gonna get the gig before they did and they have been more successful than the big name media darlings of the time.

That says nothing at all. We will still be mathematically possible to make the finals at the bye, regardless of how we go.

You’ll just have to restrain your impetuosity just that little bit longer then if that’s the case, won’t you?

Take Myers with ya and you’re 2005 game plan
