Worrying trend

This year I have noticed that when we are often leading in matches, we should actually be further in front. Yes a very broad statement but let me explain.

Rd1 v North melbourne, we won by 6 goals.. probably should have won by 12 if you all remember how dominant we were.

Rd2 v Hawk, we down at half time but in that 2nd half, hawks probably had only 10 inside 50s for the second half, yet we somehow lost that game even though we were inside 50 after inside 50 when the game was on the line. Obviously lost that game, due to two late goals when we couldnt close out the game.

Rd 6 v the Pies. Should have been at least 7 goals up at half time. We all know what happened in the end.

Rd 11 v Richmond. Yes we beat them well, but at half time we should have been way further in front and luckily this time we wernt made to pay.

Rd 13 v Melbourne, same again we should have been 8 goals up at half time, but this time we were made to pay, with another late goal in the last minute we were unable to defend

The worry trend is that we are not ruthless when we are winning all areas on the field. We let other teams have a sniff, and then fall down from there. Good teams like freo and hawks convert their dominance on the scoreboard and dont let crap teams like melbourne in.

Its clearly not endeavour (besides those late goals we conceded v haws and melbourne) as we are winning contested ball, clearance etc... its just poor efficiency in not putting a side away when we're on top.

Are you saying that the team isn't focused enough? Because that is what been guilty until proven innocent does.

The worrying trend is that we aren't that good.

We never put teams away, we get approximately 5-6 goals infront and just switch off and its ■■■■■■■ infuritating to watch.

We never put teams away, we get approximately 5-6 goals infront and just switch off and its ******* infuritating to watch.

Its sad that we can actually predict they are going to drop off and are never surprised when it happens.

Just a weak and non functioning forward line.

Bomber was a tough, uncompromising player so I'm surprised he has not been able to instil this attitude into these guys. It seems like you can lead the horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Now that you break it down it does seem like we could have won more games if we’d kicked more goals. Especially if we kicked more goals in the games we lost.

Lets hope the coaches are onto this trend. Maybe we should add kicking more goals to the gameplan.

Bomber in his press conference more or less said the same thing as the OP.

Thats not just this year, that is a characteristic of this team over the last 10years or more.

The other night you could see it happening. As soon as we got 33 points up. Carlise is kicking out from a point and decides he had to kick to 3 on 1 of a 2 step kick. 2 seconds later Hurely does the same. It was like they had a collective mental explosion that was forcing stupidity out of them.

Not to mention the kicking for goal. I actually thought Bellchambers was going to fall over the way he approached his second shot for goal.

Rohan Connelly made a good point, our on field issues of a dis-functional forward line is not something new and cant be blamed because of the off field.
To this end I bring up the game v Sydney in 2012, where we had the most inside 50s ever for a team that lost a game. Also on the weekend was the the biggest differential in inside 50s (+34) in which a team has lost a game.
Our on field issues have been there to see for ages, its nothing new, hence why we havnt won a final since 2004 which is damning considering we are one of the richest clubs.
Negative I know, but where are we going as a club, are we content treading water and not facing up to the reality of the inconsistency which has stunted our growth in the past few years

Sans joe who is a kid, we have the worst forward line going around. Bomber says it isn’t a issue. Bullshite, its the single biggest issue. Havent had decent forwards since lloyd and lucas

In the past it's been as much about the midfield's lack of kicking skills and delivery as it has been the forward line. The midfield is better (still not elite), but the forward line has gotten worse. Stick Monfries and Crameri in that forward line and it would go a lot better.

Also, we haven't had a "jet midfielder" ever since EFC said getting one would be their highest priority in the draft... back in 2001.

But we do have a 'Jet..ta' midfielder*  (boom... tish!)

*who doesn't play midfield in the seniors

So your epiphany is our forwardline isn't functioning?  With all due respect, welcome to six months ago.

Oh come on, that's ridiculous.  Maybe, maybe, they should have been up 7 goals at quarter time instead of 5, but the Pies owned the second quarter the same way Essendon owned the first.

We have a bi-polar football team. It's gotta be the worst team to follow in the league atm. You just don't know QTR to QTR whether Essendon or Essington will turn up.

That is a worrying trend.

The phrase Worrying trend being used more and more is also a worrying trend.
