And then there’s Bill, and the back story is just heroic or tragic or both, Bill turns up late, nowhere near Xmas, and seriously strung out so he probably didn’t realise, eager to finish a contract with an extraordinarily supportive label, and itching to meet his dealer, and produces one of the great solo improv dates. Riverside records were so pee’d off they buried it for decades, unaware they were sitting on a classic set of recordings.
