In the 2 minutes since I posted I've changed The Cult - Electric, to Godflesh - Selfless and back again.
Sonic Temple by The Cult, and Pslam 69 by Ministry would have made my 11 and 12.

Choosing ‘White Album’ by the Beatles is like taking 4 really good albums with you, in one.
Damn it should have chosen that.

If we end up on the same island, I’ll be glad to share.
Great thread.I’ve been working on this in an ongoing way for a while. I only include studio albums that are for me as perfect from start to finish as they can get; and, within the ten, cover as much of my musical tastes as possible. So many miss out because they are unbalanced etc… or because they crossover style-wise with others. I love very old Blues, but as they didn’t make albums as such then, I can’t really include them. I haven’t included compilations at all, or I’d probably take LZ - Remasters etc. It changes a bit - like the ins and outs of a footy team. Here’s what I’ve got at this stage.
Beatles - White Album
Ween - The Mollusk
Beastie Boys - Paul’s Boutique
Fugazi - Steady Diet of Nothing
Mr Bungle - California
The Cult - Electric
Shellac - At Action Park
Prince - Sign Of The Times
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
David Bowie - Hunky Dory■■■■■■■ hard work. The first three are non-negotiable. Have a shortlist of 20. That’s not even including metal, of which I decided to make a completely separate list (might be an idea for another thread).
I’ve also had a go at top ten favourite artists, top 50 favourite songs. Sorry for the detail, but I’m one of those guys when it comes to music. I was the guy who made endless compilation tapes as a teenager, just coz I loved trying to get it right. I still do it with I-Tunes etc. but back then it that was from vinyl to cassette, or with a double cassette player. Anyway…In the 2 minutes since I posted I’ve changed The Cult - Electric, to Godflesh - Selfless and back again.
Blitz definitely needs a metal head thread
Anyway, mine would probably be
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Mercenary - The Hours That Remain
Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare
Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
Trivium - Ascendancy
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Nightwish - Imaginareum
Rhapsody Of Fire - Power Of The Dragonflame
Disturbed - Indestructible
Parkway Drive - Killing With A Smile
Not listening to any of these now (Mercenary and Queensryche aside), but they’ve all stood the test of time as far as listening goes
These three stand out for me…
Metallica - Black Album
Nirvana - Nevermind
Dave Matthews Band - Listener Supported
Any seven of these will do…
Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists
Faith No More - The Real Thing
Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
Gary Clark Jnr - Black and Blu
Jorn - Live in America
Live - Throwing Copper
The Living End - Self titled album
The Offspring - Smash
28 Days - Upstyle Down
Pearl Jam - Alive
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
AC/DC - Highway to Hell
Arctic Monkeys - AM
Soundgarden - Superunknown
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump
Nirvana - Nevermind
I reckon I’m gunna think practically, and go for length.
Completely impossible task so I’m going to assume you don’t mean jazz or classical, because otherwise none of these would make the cut, and that we have to own vinyl copies, and I know that wasn’t specified but it makes the task easier.
No real order on these and I’d pick 10 different LPs if you asked me tomorrow. I just assumed the ship was sinking and grabbed 10 or 12 quickly.
The Pointer Sisters - Live at the Opera House (The Quartet, not the trio!)
Stevie Wonder - Songs in the key of life
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
The Temptations- Greatest Hits Vol 2
Diana Ross and the Supremes - Greatest Hits
Donna Summer - Donna Summer (The one with Love is in Control)
Chaka Khan- Chaka
Michael Jackson - Off the wall
Al Green - Greatest Hits
Eddie Floyd- Knock On wood
Aretha Franklin - Greatest Hits
Earth Wind and Fire - I Am (Yeah, I know they played Sun City but this ain’t an ethics test.)
George Benson - In Flight
Now I own and like all these albums but I especially chose them because I always feel like dancing on tropical islands.
PS ■■■■, I nearly forgot rock, so I just swam back and grabbed Chuck Berry’s Greatest Hits.
I reckon I'm gunna think practically, and go for length.
I tried that as spaces ran out, … went for doubles … even one triple album … it didn’t help.
To ask for a top ten is just fkn cruel …

They’re always 2-3 CDs

Plus if you’ve got extra discs… never going to run out of coasters or shiny things to flash messages at passing ships.I reckon you’re going to end up hating whatever you take.
The other thing to consider is the little booklets
If you took the first 10 Rhapsody CDs you’d effectively have a novel to read

Nah…cruel would be being stuck on a deserted island with only Spice Girls CDs tolisten touse as coasters or shiny things to flash messages at passing ships.![]()
Fixed.
Did they ever put audio on the laser disc format?
Imagine what you could Gilligan out of 10 or 15 of those suckers.
Were the rules 10 CD’s??
Coz if I could fill them with FLAC files … well …
