Can’t think of a funnier and crazier childhood

Has anyone else been getting this choice to verify your age before being allowed to view YouTube videos? I haven’t clicked to verify.

I was wanting to watch a John Oliver ep on a topic we are not allowed to discuss anymore.

Part of a series called Racing Through Time. I am steadily working my way through them. Great old footage and plenty of it, to be seen.

In between tests in Sri Lanka l have been cruising through You Tube and have found a treasure trove of old movies, such as this one.

Made in 1950 this is a revealing and confronting look into racism in Chicago. Widmark plays a white trash petty crim. He and his brother are both wounded in a crime and taken to a hospital for treatment. The brother dies despite the best efforts of a doctor to save him. The doctor is a prize intern played by Sidney Poitier, who Widmark then accuses of killing his brother, purely based on the colour of his skin. This film doesn’t pull any punches in its depiction of racism, and Widmark is the vilest, wildest racist portrayed on film that l have seen in years, perhaps ever. Poitier plays his role as the stoic intern, intent on proving his innocence despite the slimy attempts of Widmark to provoke him. Steven McNally plays the head honcho of the hospital who defends Poitier to the hilt.

Linda Darnell plays the most interesting character as she is conflicted and torn between the two opposing sides. The film also shows how wretched and violent slum life is for the poor whites of a certain neighbourhood, in comparison to the orderly and more homely family life of the poor blacks. Well worth a look.

Another hidden gem, from around the same era, this time from the early days of TV. Lee Marvin stars as the hard bitten Chicago cop. This is the first episode l have seen. The strong supporting cast contains James Coburn as the older brother to Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy either steals the show or is way over the top depending on your viewpoint (l found him to be WOTT), his performance is diametrically opposed to his Spock character, at times his performance is almost a parody. I will look at a few episodes at some stage.

Edit: Bump required.

For those interested, someone on YouTube is posting various full-length matches from season 2000. A few Essendon games are among the uploads.

There are so many clips of Karens on Youtube that you wonder…“this country has so many handguns…why don’t they ■■■■■■■ use them on Karens”

It does seem to have worked on sov cits.

If you’re a cop coming back to the station after your shift, and you announce that you’ve just shot 7 sov cits, surely the sergeant would be asking questions as to why only 7.

I don’t know a thing about this presenter, but he knows his movies, inside and out. He has done plenty of top 10s, both best and worst across a range of genres, and there are plenty of movies here l have never heard of, plenty l have heard of but never seen, and quite a few l have seen. Each clip is reasonably short, little more that a sound bite. really, but illuminating and informative.

I clicked on one of these videos…now they keep getting recommended to me.

It’s actually fun to challenge yourself to come up with a line…this comedian did well IMO:

The story of one of my 2 favourite race car drivers of all time. This clip needs some editing as they have repeated one section.

I could have put this link in the cars for everybody thread, except these cars aren’t for everyone, they are the collection of one man, James May. The background stories are as surprising as the selections themselves. The 440 Million headline in the background is totally misleading, disregard it.
