Zakka's new deal

He's underdone and out of form.

He is not underdone. That is a poor excuse. Out of form? Perhaps just true to form. Does a lot of jogging when the opposition have the ball.

Heppell is worse Defensively in my opinion.

Like Hurley give Zakka a five year deal and watch him also fail to live up to the hype and expectation.  Still waiting.

I agree somewhat. Heppell doesn’t run the other way either, but at least he does the hard stuff when required. Zaka skirts packs and is an exponent of the one armed “token” tackle.

Way to much jogging when we dont have the footy, heppell just as bad but at least hep goes in and gets the footy in the contest, 21 disposals and 0 defensive work is rubbish

Maybe he’s been fasting for Easter and is malnourished.

Lol, Heppell laid 9 tackles. His defensive work has been much improved the last couple of weeks

So what? A tackle is considered just putting your arms around someone and most the time letting them get a handball out, not actually taking them to ground and holding up the ball.
Heppell literally slow jogs everywhere and is frustratingly slow to react to opponents with the ball.

Is a half forward, not pure mid for mine.

Up the city end wasnt the best view but just seemed to fumble EVERYTHING

Not gonna torch him based on today. Was a very strange game / conditions / situation.

Drop him for a few weeks.

Yep this is his game in a nutshell today. Just couldn't grab the footy. Freo's pressure still the best in the business and we didn't handle it very well at all.

That's a joke of a post, honestly.

You make it sound as if the tackle count is basically meaningless. But the fact that he is laying tackles even if they don't take an opponent to the ground are a very good indicator of defensive work rate. If you're laying tackles, it means that at the very least you're keeping up with your opponent when they have the ball.

Heppell's defensive work isn't great, but it's certainly not terrible and he is improving.

How?
Don't get me wrong, I love him and I defended him last week for his defensive efforts but he was useless as soon as someone near him got the ball today.

He was busy trying to win the ball.  35 touches with 7 clearances and 9 tackles.  Get off his back.  With Jobe playing a lot up forward he won a lot of ball against a team who were always getting first touch with their ruck advantage.

All I am saying is that the defensive side of his game needs to be worked on just as hard as he has worked on his offensive game.

I’d drop Zakka to the magoos for a spell if we can afford too. Not best 22 at the moment.
