He won’t be playing if he was in say Geelong or Lions team
If he polls top 5 in the nobby I will shout a random Blitzer a $100 gift card to PANDO
I thought Andy had a good game and was possibly the best of the back 6.
The hack kicks around the body still concern me, but credit where credit is due.
He was excellent
Was a good duel with Crips imo
The same could be said for many others. I had him in our top 5 and almost gave him a vote in the Nobby.
Defensive role up forward on J Daicos ?
Or a full blooded tag on Nick ?
You’d expect this pretty much every match from a leader and co captain on a decent contract.
Bobby Hill
That was Ridley’s error - pretty well the only one he made in the game. Kicking it in short to Pando who was under pressure was an error of Redman-sized proportions.
Always plays better when there is an opponent to lock down on and run off.
I don’t drink
I don’t recall saying anything about his game on the weekend, you coming in late
Champion data
3 - Andrew McGrath (Essendon)
“McGrath has dropped 217 places. He’s actually having his worst season.”
It’s so simple with McGrath.
He is the worst inside 50 kick in the comp and maybe in the history of our club. When he is looking for overlap handball receives and/or trying to make the play by spotting up players up the ground, he is one of the biggest liabilities at Essendon.
When his role is to lock down first, get the ball and quickly hand it off to our better ball users, he is a more than a serviceable footballer.
He should model his game on someone like Nick Smith from the Swans golden era. Smith locked down on the opposition’s best small forward, then used the ball safely on the way out. He never bit off more than he could chew with his disposal and was therefore never out of position if there was a turnover etc.
Andy’s been at the club for nearly 10 years, let’s just call the baby ugly here and give him a role that matches his capability and let others become match winners.
Agree wholeheartedly.
However - he has said himself he feels the pressure of being a number 1 pick - and thus he should be in the top players at the club. He said this when he wanted to be an inside mid.
Harry Callahan said it best…
When McGrath stops trying to be what he’s not (a midfielder), stops feeling pressure to be a no.1 pick and focuses on what he’s decent at (a lockdown defender), he’s capable.
Is a lockdown defender with very ordinary disposal what a club should be spending a no.1 pick on? Well, that’s a whole different discussion… He is what he is, we’re saddled with him, and a good club and coach (sadly, we have neither) should be able to determine how to best work within his limitations.
Opponent is a farking donut.
Sublime and near-perfect game by Mr Mcgrath
Except for his kicking
Has been good defensively though
Just needs a few more hoofs around the corner to make it a typical McGrath game.
You can do it!
