Oh… there are many, many things that lead to me saying “jeez, Champion Data’s rating system is full of ■■■■”…
Worth noting though that the stats suggest that the improvement has seemingly come from us moving Blakiston to Wright.

It has coincided with Blak out wright in, Tsatas and McGrath in, and Merrett, Roberts and Durham out (or mostly out).
FWIW Rowell was ranked 6th best on AFL Fantasy points, 2nd (behind only Zerrett) on SuperCoach points.
In my view you could argue any of Rowell, Petracca, Zerrett, McGrath, and arguably throw Witts in there for BOG.
Player Ratings must rank defensive stuff and contest wins comparatively higher than other ranking systems?

AFL fantasy points are just simple counting metrics. Fantasy just awards points for a disposal, tackle, etc. Its just junk (it doesn’t even account for if your disposal is a turnover).
SuperCoach has some more advanced metrics, but isn’t close to the AFL rankings system which tries to measure impact on a game.

Reading through it, yes it’s looking at effectively the (cumulative) difference to expected team score before and after every contest you’re in.
Footy stats (what’s publicly presented, at least) is decades behind most of the US sports. And some of these different aggregated / calculated scores are starting to get there.
After a long term job down back, McGrath has come into the middle and played really well.
We needed speed coming out of stoppage and he delivered. Lets hope he can deliver again on Saturday, whether its down back on Daicos or when he goes into the middle on Daicos.

Durham is easily one of our best runners. I actually think he’s a better match up for Naicos than McGrath as the latter is more suitable for the stronger mids like Rowell and Neale.
