#1 Andy McGrath - from April 2022

He had 25, 7 tackles and I think turned it over twice?

Im not sure what Andy did to you to make you hate him so much but grow up.
He was great today.

25 touches and 6 turnovers.

Along with 5 intercepts, 10 contested, 7 tackles, 4 clearances, 4 marks, 1 goal assist, 416m gained. Exactly what we want from him.

Still think his kicking is not up to it when under the pressure of the midfield. Backline for me.

How ironic - and how Essendon-like - that the only time a maggot gave us the “rub of the green” led to that high farce.

Have to stop accepting mediocrity. Parish had a good game, but wheres the clappers for him?

Best game of the year.

Best stat line today was the 7 tackles by Pidge.

It’s hard being a number one pick, because you’re not just assessed as an individual player, but you’re also assessed as the pick.

There are valid criticisms for Andy with his ball use. In every year of Andy’s career he has averaged more turnovers per game than score involvements. The best players have their fair share of turnovers, but also help contribute to scores.

Andy currently is 80th in the league for disposals per game, but is 282nd for score involvements but if 12th for turnovers. So it appears to be a combination of too many turnovers and too few score involvements.

That’s where Andy needs to improve and build on todays good game. Thought he did a lot of good work

Seems to have had a bit of a reset. Looking better.

He ran with it a lot more today.

Better but still a lot of room for improvement. Disposal still not quite at the level we saw early in his career. Seemed to have good positioning defensively which is something we are sorely lacking outside of designated stoppers.

I’ve been a critic but his last two weeks have been quite a bit better. Credit where it’s due.

Similar to Francis - baby steps. This was Andy’s best game of the year easy - hope he builds next week.

If he can make this type of performance his baseline: 25 touches, 4 clearances, 400 metres gained, 10 contested and 5 tackles, then I’d be satisfied with taking him at pick 1. Reality is that the 2016 draft was a bit of a dud, and this type of output probably makes him a better contributor than mccluggage too. I think this is a really reasonable goal for Andy and he will become a good, consistent contributor for us in the midfield.

I don’t think similar to Francis at all. Andy already has a shitload of runs on the board. Not even in the same ballpark.
