Just make Draper captain already and be done with it

this is essendons truth.

thought we had it sorted after the arrival of carracella but there’s still an air of stagnancy that’s pumping through our systems.

He’s the definition of ordinary and if he wasn’t drafted so high everyone on here would agree.

Exactly…was a mid “patch up”. Now we have the mid personnel available, Pigeon goes back to where he started, he will be an elite small defender…a very important cog and just watch as his delivery stats improve when he is running towards our goals instead of theirs

Robert Shaw would have been in his ear as well, big time.

Except for the fact that those have never been his averages in any season. You might find a small sample of cherry picked games within a season but his career averages are 21 & 3 with his highest season average being 22.6 & 4.8.

He has played some good games as a mid, he has never ever been an above average mid for an extended period & its arguable he’s been elite in anything even as a small defender outside of his debut year.

You were probably saying that a few years ago about McGrath etc. Let’s just wait and see till the Essendon loser culture rubs off on him.

There is an incredibly depressing conversation on the AFL site where they talk about 2016 as a super draft. They do top fives then name about twenty others before getting to McGrath.

Nah, i was always #teammccluggage

Much discussion about trading Shiel or Parish - McGrath is the obvious player to trade out as he has little or no upside - You would get a pick around 15 to 20 - Taranto’s kicking skills are at the same level as McGrath’s - That is ordinary.

Who’s going to give up that pick ?

He’s an average footballer with A+ off field character which acts as a facade, tricking us into believing that we may have a complete footballer on our hands.
The reality is he is an he will never be more than a foot soldier.
That’s what we’ve used our first pick on.

I doubt we’d get a pick inside 30 for Rath.

McGrath was headed for being an elite midfielder, then he got injured and then we played him down back.

  • In 2020 he was averaging 5.0 clearances a game (equal #13th in the league), 23.1 disposals (14th) and 5.1 tackles (14th) pre-injury. Rounds 1-14.

  • In 2021 pre-injury he averaged 5.2 clearances (37th), 26.1 disposals (34th) and 5.3 tackles (20th) pre-injury. Rounds 1-11.

His 2020 in particular was stellar pre-injury. Top 15 in the league. Last year he was a little behind that, but still solidly top 40 pre-injury. Probably sacrificed his game a bit for Parish in 2021.

He’s better than ordinary, he cops it on here because he was a high pick.

Like I say, you can look at simple stats and make conclusions, but his ball use was poor. He didn’t hurt you with his disposal, everyone could see that

2020 he was 23rd for disposals but 232nd for score involvements and 17th for turnovers. Says it all.

He’s a halfback at AFL level. Even he’s said that. Stop with the silly arguments

Actually not a bad analysis.

I reckon people are going to early. He’s struggled the year back from injury in a year he’s been thrown around playing a few different roles.

He should bounce back next year. Not saying he’s going to suddenly be an AA footballer, but I’d back him to have a better year next year.
