#10 Isaac Kako

Yeh, nah.
Bent over a barrel implies we had no other options. There were plenty.
We got a good offer, and we took it. It’s not complex.

I worry for this kid. God help him with our fan base if he doesn’t win the Coleman in his debut season

And Rising Star, and Goal of the Year, and All Australian.

Did I mention the Crichton? Or the brownlow?

I can’t wait until he gets here.

You forgot the Norm Smith.

In a winning team of course.

The suggestion that we should let them have him is pure foolishness.

By all means wait until draft night to see if they bid, but let them have him…. stupidity.

FWIW, Melbourne clearly pushed, but we got an excellent deal. In my opinion, it’s a deal that’s too good to pass up given the uncertainty of our position.

In Scott we trust…

The Training Report industry is expecting a massive boost in 2024/5.

First, Kako Watch, the most in demand service to be offered. Subscriptions are expected to flood in, while a series of the usual pundits and guest appearances of Training Report royalty will feature at least until the general concensus is a round 1 debut, or not.
Also in demand will be the Player out of Position report. Lets hope Kako does not feature in this, but if Kako shows up on the wing, at centre bounces, or replacing McGrath in the back pocket, the recommendation will be to develop another interest to occupy yourself over the winter months.

Would the build up by the media be the same for Kako if he was going to North ?

In a word, no.

First Caddy then Kako.

I love how our last two firsts are goal kickers.

Hope the next two are as well. Hardest thing in footy

We had plenty of I50s in 2024, but I suspect the quality of them ( bomb it long) was a determinant of our failure. These 2 players merely replace Stringer and Tippa. How we coach our mids is key to improvement.

Stringer reading this with a look of dismay on his face.

Trading stringer is the take one step back to take 2 or three steps forward.

I absolutely love the bloke, and will love watching him go to town with superb delivery from the GWS mids or guys like Whitfield pushing up.

But for us to have a forward line starting to be stacked with teenagers with 200+ game potential written all over them is the future.

We keep lamenting about our ball use going inside 50 for years and it still never changes. We have periods of dominance but we’re not efficient enough. It’s been ingrained in this midfield group for years and is partly why we lose games, coz we don’t take advantage of our dominance. A lot of the mids that we praise for ‘effort’ are the same mids making these dumb decisions going inside 50 and it’s infuriating. It’s why martin stands out when he plays forward of centre. If we don’t improve on this aspect next year then nothing has really changed. Even I notice if we do bomb the ball long to a 1 vs 1 situation, we don’t kick it to the advantage of our player or into space for the player to run unto. We kick it over our players heads that usually leads to an intercept mark by the opposition player. It’s little things like these that can make a difference in ball movement.

Kako will definitely help as he can provide lead ups and hit the scoreboard, but I definitely agree with you that the coaching of our mids around decision-making needs to be significantly better.

It’s not entirely the mids though, who are they supposed to kick it to when 2MP is standing still with the rest of the forward line in a circle 5m away from him and no one leading or waiting out the back

Our setup’s been diabolical for years, I thought it (offensive ball movement into 50) was the whole reason we brought across Cara, but clearly not.

Correct also, our forward line can be way too static and hardly works hard off the ball to provide leads. The disconnect between mids and forwards has been there for years, it goes hand in hand.
