#10 Isaac Kako

If he keeps up at the rate of his last three games, plays every game and averages 20+ disposals off half back he will be in it up to his neck IMO.

That utopian scenario was a very long shot given the talk from all the recruiters that Kako was going top 10. We would have had to match pick 11,12,13 at best and would have wiped out all later round picks and not given us such a start for next years draft.

I get we would have had another round 1 recruit but really the clubs picking before us would never let that happen.

I prefer that we played it smart and safe, land Kako anyway and get all the fringe benefits from the Melbourne deal. We stayed in total control of our destiny.

Its a trade. Its always line ball because the deals gotta be good for both Melbourne and Essendon.

I didnt like it but I don’t hate it either.

(in retrospect you would have thought we would have known norths 2025 first was going to be on the table as well - if they didnt know that and couldnt make kako plus norths f1 work in an under pick 9 bid scenario then thats poor trading)

If the guy picked at or just after the guy that Melbourne picked with our first turns into an out and out gun and Kako fizzles

Well that is on recruiting.

But until that happens lets see what our current draft haul does and what Rosa and O’brien come up with in 2025.

Its too early to judge, if Melbourne Does what Collingwood did for GWS we could end up with a top 4 pick. Ultimately depends who we pick with our first rounder.

Imagine he does a Nic Martin and boots 5 on debut and wins the rising star for the week.

Yeah.

The issue I see it was there was obviously a good future first (probably many) on the table for pick 9 on draft night.

Thats pretty obvious to me as the ā€œpotentialā€ blunder. But who knows we needed more than a future first for 9 to get kako in the door.

Id have weakened our 2025 hand pre draft to do that.

(2025 2nd and third futures for 2024 points pre draft and traded 9 if we had to draft night).

Instead we took the safer option which guarantees a deeper presence next year. But maybe not that top 5 future first that north might be giving up.

I think it’s a pretty simple equation. If any of the other picks we now have work out, then it’s a wash. If more than one of them do, then we’re ahead.

Great to see they gave Kako Bewick’s old number

Just saw him at Airport West with a lady friend. Poor bloke must think I followed him from training.

I did.

I’d even add Duz and Draper to the list. Just need a bit of gelling and on field performance! Which by the way, I’m pretty glass full about over the next 2-3 years.

I’m getting more of these vibes

It gets funnier the longer you look at it.

There is a 20 min video of kako posted by baseline footy just yesterday.

It’s not the most exciting, but it shows how much kako (and his family) live and breath footy, which is great to see.

I’m hoping this doesn’t escalate into suggesting folk do ā€œmakeupā€ face.
