#10 Isaac Kako

Phwoar, Bewick’s on fire!

Hird, sucking in the deep ones.

■■■■ us being good at the MCG in the 90s was just so elite.

if only he’d kicked… 10

Bewick probably had a longer range than Tippa, and Tippa more likely to pass it off to another player when a further from goal.

The 90’s in general were elite.

I was there for the game. It was a surreal night. Bewick never looked like missing any of those goals. Poor Cats supporters had it tough. l took the train some and at Richmond station there were 4 diesels sitting at different platforms with 6 carriages in tow. It was already after 11 PM, and the train ride would have taken over an hour to get back to Geelong. Then the drive home. A lot of their supporters would not have gotten home until after 1 AM. How deflating.

Kicked most of those goals like a great goal sneak, crumbing packs and in the right place

Just seems like he has it.

Tenacious, quick, savvy around goals.

Reckon he will have a better goal output than Walla, probably not as great on the defensive pressure front.

Was great to see Kako and Unwin hang back after everyone else left the track today. They seem to have a bit of chemistry and friendly competition between them.

Walla launched a few from 55ish with the set shot.

I’d also have Walla’s general field kicking as on par with Merrett as the best of the modern guys. Not convinced there’s much difference between Boris and Walla on that front.

Bewick is the better player purely through professionalism which lead to sustained fitness. And it’s a pretty big gap, 100 games and nearly 200 goals.

But I’d love to have seen what Walla could have been if he was a contemporary of Bewick, with the lower fitness requirements, more space in the forward line, more one on one defence and being able to play at the feet of genuinely elite forwards in teams that were finals relevant.

But they are the two best small forwards we’ve had, and arguably they are the only regular small forwards we’ve had as Davey was a CHF, and fantasia the big ‘what if?’

There are a few other ‘what ifs?’ which could have helped bridge the gap between Boris and Walla with Steven Milne and Cyril both plucked from under our nose. That would have created the perfect succession from the 80s into the 30s if Kako fulfills his potential.

He can get there defensively. Just needs good technique, coaching and application

Tippa was a dead eye kick for goal, great defensively in his prime and had a bag of tricks, but I recon he didnt do the basic small forward stuff that well.
Was also hot or cold, kicked 4 one week then 0 and so on.

I think Kako will be better than him by year 3.

Perhaps the criticism is warranted but in all the clips I watched of kako during his draft year I noticed him chasing his ass off.

DB; 238 games, 332 goals (1.4 mpg) 2 premierships
AMT; 133 games, 157 goals (1.3 gpg)

I hate ranking players, especially bomber players, but you can make your own mind up on the numbers.

I have. What is your point?

To say Tippa was a better player than Bewick is simply an opinion, and in my opinion, not based on facts.
Bewick won more games for Essendon, played in superior teams, and is a two time premiership player.
But this is an opinion website and so you’re welcome to yours.

I love Tippa and his story greatly, and in recent years fired up young kids and old hacks like me alike. He would be a welcome player in any era.

Except that my stated opinion was that Bewick was far better than Walla over the journey. So I’m not sure why you are trying to argue with me?

If I’m not mistaken, Bewick came over from WA the same year Ando from SA.
Anderson had all the fanfare.

Remember thinking during an early season Windy Hill game…“man, we’ve got one here with this speedy redhead” !
