It’s not a bad move. We are crying out for a midfielder well over the 6 foot mark so he ticks that box. Must profess to not following his career all that closely but the highlights show that he has good range in his kicking. For what we gave up, he’s worth a punt. As far as Zaharakis goes, he should not be a walk-up start in the team any longer. I think the new Rutten/Caracella regime might find him out for his lack of work defensively and at the contest. A less talented but more team focused player may end up getting games ahead of him, and that may not necessarily be a bad thing.
If this happens it will be a positive sign for the new regime as far as I’m concerned. If Zaka raises to the expectations placed on him, fine. But he has coasted for far too long and only steels himself for a few games a season where he plays with the required intent and fully commits his body to the required standard.
Yeh. That particularly applies to trying to turn defenders in to forwards and half backs in to mids. But this guy actually is a big bodied mid. No harm in trying him inside stoppages in the preseason. If it doesn’t work out, OK, plonk him on a wing where Brisbane used him. In any case as a wing, he would be familiar with stoppage craft, mostly on the outside of course.
Having a slightly bigger body doesn’t make him a big bodied mid - I don’t think stoppage craft is part of his toolkit. The fact that Ham player a final (I rate him but he wasn’t ready) was a very good indication that we needed an additional winger (or two) on the list and that is what this guy is.
Well, in describing him as a “big bodied mid” perhaps Dodoro is exaggerating.
Slightly bigger? He is about the height of Ambrose, and about the same weight.
I am a bit worried that Dodoro said we got a “strong bodied midfielder”. Still turning flankers into mids. Anywho, I think he will be better than Langford.
