Supporting a players demise is still supporting…just saying!
If you love cutler so much WHY DONT YOU MARRY HIM,!
I dont see why we’d give him another contract to be honest. what have we learnt that we didn’t already know?
(2016 - 20) What have we learnt (about Lav) that we didn’t already know?
(2004 to 2007) What have we learnt (about Jobe) that we didn’t already know?
ridiculous comparisons. cutler is 27 next year.
Washed up and completely useless
Gets another year. He’s been good this year when given the opportunity.
We can’t in one breath cry out for depth then in the very next breath delist what we have.
scott gumbleton 07-13
Jackson merrett - 2012 -2018
I’m betting I can find more examples than you can
There are so many guys that are delistable this year that it’s inevitable we end up with 1 or 2 guys kept who we (blitz) don’t want to see kept. It’s hard to predict which 1 or 2 though
Winderlich had his best season at aged 28/29
No one’s expecting him to be a superstar… but the modern game needs 30 blokes that can play a role, not 18 guns.
Blitz would rather a spud that ‘has a go’ than a bloke who physically has all the attributes to be a decent player, if he can get his head right.
not sure what the obsession is with holding onto guys like cutler. is he okay depth? maybe. but it hasn’t worked out. clubs in our position should be consistently turning over guys like cutler because we NEED to strengthen the list. I’d rather have a look at someone new rather than go into next year with the depth of cutler
look at durham. comes in, and instantly you can tell we’ve got a player on our hands. all the more reason why you keep going to the draft, to look for these types rather than giving jobbers another 1 year deal
think there might be just a tad difference of ability between winderlich and cutler
My memory very different. Winderlich was a turnover merchant for the first half dozen years… when he wasn’t injured.
Brilliant 2014 though… then retired at 30
Do you think it’s likely, or even possible, that every player we draft will be at the same level as Durham?
Our lack of depth has been widely acknowledged this year, yet some folks are calling for almost a quarter of the list to to be delisted/retired. It doesn’t make sense. There will be some unpopular retentions in the off-season because a club that has fielded the youngest or second youngest team for most of the season isn’t going to bring in 8-10 newbies. Cutler is 26, has played 80-odd games, is a good athlete and a very good kick. He is a good depth option and should be retained, in my opinion.
It’s a question of how many.
If we cut all of Hooker/Ambrose/Gleeson/Clarke/Phillips/Mcbride/Zaha/Zerk etc etc except Cutler - and get 10 newbies - I can live with cutler staying.
If we only take 2 picks, then yeah, we’ve got some problems.
FWIW one area I do trust disco and co is at the bottom end of a draft.
If they reckon there’s nothing there, I’ll back them in. If they load up, we normally do well.
I cant believe people are interested in keeping him around. after 2-3 middling games.
I wouldn’t say interested.
In certain conditions, I could live with it.
Keep. Too many need to be delisted, shown he can do a role down back. Not bad for depth.
of course not. but it’s not about that. it’s about turning over a average player in the hope you find a better one. we may as well just given Jackson merrett a continual contract if we’re keeping guys like cutler
I think its highly likely we could find a player who could provide the same output as cutler. if not, oh well? it’s not like we lose a great deal
Tom Cutler will almost certainly be better than a third round rookie pick. And he’s probably not in the bottom 3-5 worst players on our list if asked to play AFL. This will continue to be true for the next 4-5 years. So do we keep him for the next five years?
