Scott has been very clear on Cox. He told fitness crew to get his back strong so he has a 10 year career. Not much has changed from that to my knowledge… just he went from 6 to 8 weeks this week as thats what they now think he needs.
Do you think we have the patience to wait 11 years for it to develop?
I remember watching Mason at VFL (with Werribee) and he was seriously athletic. He could run all day. His problem was his physique.
When he got to AFL they tried to make him into a third forward or half forward flanker which needed a more developed body to be decent.
Even North were patient with him and gave him 8 years to develop before giving up on him.
The guy is 29 years old. He’d be cooked at our club.
You think good clubs would play him injured?
Like we did Joe Daniher?
However long it takes to recover, get them right, then ease him into training then go hard on training.
It’s just that some coaching groups want to take on that risk. Scott has been clear how he handles long term injuries.
It’s not going to pay off every time, but we know what the last way produced for us. As long as we improve on that low base, then that’s a start.
Hence the program he is doing now. Thats the whole point. You strengthen the muscles around your back so you have longevity. Surely thats common sense and nothing to panic over
It is what it is.
We are being incredibly cautious with the long injuries. It’s clear that is a directive. No rushing players back.
Especially given Cox and Reid were injured the majority of last year.
I’m fine them spending the time to get it right and then get 6 weeks of VFL into them, then get them back for a full pre-season.
I’m not sure why saying Wood showcased the way I think Cox should be played in any way means I think Cox should exactly replicate Wood’s path??? Based on his first year if not for injuries I’d expect Cox to progress much faster.
Pretty ■■■■■■■ tiring to have all these key position, high draft picks constantly injured.
Granted, I don’t pay too much attention to other teams over the years, but it certainly feels we are somewhat cursed/unlucky in this regard.
Cannot seem to keep kids on the park for an extended duration.
Jones, Cox, Reid are supposed to be part of our next spine, and i don’t think they’ve all played a game together have they? Fark.
And Tsatas is just salt on the wound.
The risk of soft tissue injury for players coming on as subs with shorter warm up should certainly have been predicted, particularly as both those players, and Hind, have had issues in the pre season with injury or conditioning for Walla.
