#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 1)

Yeah that’s the sh¡t part.

The reward for sucking is that you’re supposed to get improvement from the high draft picks you get access to.

But in our case, that’s not happening cos ours are constantly injured.

Even if it doesn’t necessarily translate to more wins, most supporters can be satiated if they see the exciting, promising signs from their highly rated young players. You can then begin to see the nucleus of a future team taking shape.

But going ordinary without those kids even playing is tough going. Because it feels like you’re treading water.

To change the tune a bit…

Gee who remembers that one handed pick up at full speed I50 in his draft year followed by banging one through on the left? Not bad for a 200cm beanpole.

Looking forward to him having a solid platform to build some consistent form from. Glad they are taking a long term approach on a talent like that.

Or, R.I.P. whichever suits ya’ll mood this morning.

Won’t be seeing it any time soon. If ever again.

Your bottom lip must get awfully sore dragging across the floor all day. Nothing has pointed to chronic, debilitating, career ending injury.

He’s a young 200cm kid working through an AFL program. If S&C was a direct science Judd would have been bursting through packs at breakneck speed at FC instead of being at the bottom of them.

Except that hes barely played in a year

Shades of Joe Daniher

Do you think it is possible he is recovered but they just want him to have a stronger back for his long term longevity? B. Scott has already said they are taking a longer term view and this is evidence of that.

Wait so Scott is now directing the medical team on how to manage player injuries?

“Ohhhh we didn’t realise you wanted him to play for 10+ years! Ok BDB yep will do, that’ll be another 2 weeks recovery though”

(Not at all directed at you btw mate, just frustrated with our medical team once again)

Genuine question, could they not have been doing more strength work with his back last year? I mean I have NFI, but he basically missed the whole of last season with a foot injury.

AFL club medical room article from Feb this year said “Nik Cox has been running as he recovers from his own back problem”, so he’s clearly had a significant setback since then (and now he’ll miss half the year).

Hopefully they get it right this time around - we’ll see.

Highly unlikely. He was going to play VFL back in March. Since then his time frame has increased three times. Are we to believe that initially they were taking a carefree approach, and only now are they doing this properly? If he was recovered, he would be running.

What I think has happened is each time he has gone for scans, they’ve seen a hot spot grow. Which indicates that not only is he not responding to the rehab program, his condition is getting worse.

I know you obviously get a lot of information but do you believe everything they tell you? surely they arent going to say “you know what, yeah he’s actually pretty cooked and we’re just hoping now”

he’s clearly had a setback or two, imo. i mean, it couldn’t be more obvious with the timelines for months, otherwise why even put a timeline on him? just give him the james stewart TBC infefinate status and be done with it

It does mean he’s had a set back. Maybe things just haven’t improved.

Thats a setback

Can’t remission also mean ‘it hasn’t gotten worse’

Maybe he’s in back remission?

Or maybe injury recovery isn’t an exact science

Sometimes players can improve quicker, sometimes it takes longer

Back stress fractures aren’t as simple as a rolled ankle

I couldn’t care less if Cox doesn’t play this year so long as he’s recovered and done the work to strengthen his body accordingly

So his ruined body which is preventing him from playing footy, isnt getting worse.

Well thats positive sounding.
