#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 1)

Reid was listed at 82kgs and Cox at 87kgs on rookie me central. @THE_DON1 do you know if those are official weights?

He looked in good spirits in the brief training snippet he was in.

but also the smalls that went at pies have been turned over too Poulte pick 30.

Plus we got Wright for a future fourth rounder and brought caldwell in as a smaller mid.

O’driscoll was talked up here and he went at 27.

i guess we tried trading back pic 10, that’s what i would have done for 2 teen picks.

I wanted to bid on McInnes, Gulden and Rioli jnr lol if we traded back and got picks in teens.

because so many academy picks no one really wanted to trade etc

Not sure how accurate, but some quick searches on (RMC) draft profile and current height/weight of a few players:

2MP:
Pre 203/100 now 203/102

Harry Jones:
Pre 195/75 now 196/88

Zach Reid:
Pre 202/82 now 202/90

Nic Cox:
Pre 200/87 now 200/94

Sam Draper:
Pre 202/100 now 205/105

Tom J Lynch:
Pre 196/86 now 199/100

Charlie Curnow:
Pre 191/95 now 194/94

Harry McKay:
Pre 200/85 now 200/106

Ben McKay:
Pre 200/91 now 202/104

TDK:
Pre 200/90 now 201/102

SDK:
Pre 201/86 now 204/97

Noting of course that Cox and Reid (and Jones) are significantly younger than the others.

Of course, I’m not saying geez look how skinny our kids are, I’m saying look how much further they need to develop before we can expect results from them.

Interesting how much some have gained (Harry McKay) whereas some already had the size. I do question 2MP’s weight when drafted though, was he that heavy already?

Yeah, that’s the problem with some of the comparisons we are seeing. Hard to compare a work in progress with some finished products.

I just think the ‘skinny’ thing is very overstated.

From memory Wright was a big lad, but I didn’t pay a lot of attention to footy at the time tbh.

Problem with all 3 of ours also is, whilst I’m no expert I would think they need to get their body into a playing condition before they can add bulk. So we need to get them on the park for a stretch, and then hope over a consistent preseason they can monster out a bit.

I imagine there is more than one way to go about treating injuries and it would be a little bit like cheap, fast and good, which two of those three do you want?

The fitness people would assess and say here’s the problem, here are the possible solutions and their pros and cons. Our preference is this, but what do ya reckon coach?

So he’s to return in 6-8 weeks eh? That takes young Nik to being available R13 … FC at the G, or maybe after the bye R15 away to Freo. Best outlook unless the setbacks raise their ugly head again. FC would be a tasty game to come back in for when thinking about it. Off the IC say, roaming around HB,wing or HF?

Not only is it will we see him at all this season, but where will Brad eventually decide to play him? It’s as interesting and crucial a question as when will he actually get back on the park and return to the 1s.

Still reckon wing just to build tank and any sort of self belief until he’s unleashed to somewhere like CHB or tall forward.

But first things first…

id say its not accurate at all. especially the pre draft stuff. cox is listed as 2kg heavier than harry mckay which is hilarious. you decide from their draft year

Yeah now you mention it, Brand and Eyre to go with Cox and Reid. 4 talls drafted, 2 already delisted and the other 2 permanent fixtures in the medical room.

According to THE_DON1’s post 10 posts above yours, Cox’s rookiemecentral listed weight is official.

You’re just looking at their bodies and not factoring in Cox’s bonce. If Cox had McKay’s head, he’d be 65 kegs wet.

He wasn’t even in that draft!

well, one of them isnt right is it.

Realistically, there was nothing wrong with Cox as a selection. There was a lot wrong with playing him as much as we did early on. We had a skinny beanpole who hadn’t played football through covid. Instead of giving him a primarily strengthening program, we pushed him to play every game of senior football.

Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.

We are reaping what we sewed. We didn’t build him up the way we obviously should have. We pushed him into the football stuff when he wasn’t physically ready. The injuries from that have delayed him bulking up, derailing his development. Taking a breather to do the basic strength work that should have been done at the start is to be lauded, not complained about.
