Think it was preseason and nackers was talking about how well he was tracking. Didn’t think he would come close to winning but $101 odds and looking likely for a round 1 debut I thought it was great value. Now I’m looking at a 3k win with a $900 cash out option. Not too shabby!

It’s because he isn’t real…it’s not possible for someone that tall to be able to run like he does; to have the exquisite balance he has; to have such clean hands below his knees; the poise; the ability to kick with both feet AND also have a good footy brain!! It’s just not possible!!

In the clearance work Cox was included as a midfielder where I spent a bit of time watching him, and he certainly doesn’t look anything like a lumbering tall. He had no problem with the contested work where he was clean off the ground with quick hands and was very agile. On a few occasions I was very impressed with his ability to dodge and weave in traffic and pass the ball off to a teammate even under strong pressure. He certainly is a very unique player, he looks very comfortable in the midfield, I can’t really recall a player of his size having a similar skill set.

I know I’ve already talked quite a lot about Cox previously, but it’s hard not to notice him when training. They’re not trying to make him into something he’s not, he plays like a midfielder, pure and simple which is hard to believe for someone his size. A couple of things he did today I was just shaking my head at, easily collecting contested ground balls and dodging and weaving his way out of trouble. And then added to that is his elite running where he continually leaves others in his wake with 80 - 100 runs at a very good pace. His handball and linking up work is also excellent, he just needs to get more consistency with his kicking. It’s hard to see him also not debuting in round 1 at this stage.

Added to his natural talents he’s obviously also put a lot of work in as his kicking has improved considerably since the start of pre season, which I would put down mainly to a lack of competitive football last year. But he’s also changed his technique to a degree, he’s now much straighter in his posture off both feet and more reliable as a result.

I’m sure it won’t be long until he starts nailing more of his goal opportunities and then he’ll be even more of a handfull than he is now.
