#13 Nik Cox

On the plus side, Hobbs looks like he’s entering beast mode territory.

Like a lion hunting his prey.

In all seriousness
how the ■■■■ does a professional athlete of almost 3 years still look so skinny ??
I swear we are the only club where players either come back fat, or take double the time to put muscle on.

Jones is another one who I would have thought by now would be more physically developed than he is.

Break out season incoming

As a counter argument, Eric Hipwood took forever to put any really noticeable size on. He’s 25 and still on the skinny side but has only recently (post ACL) probably just reached the stage of filling out enough to compete strongly and hold his ground more often than not.

I think they were quite wary of not wanting him to lose his athleticism. Plus some shoulder issues.

Not everyone hold weight in their bicepts, the bloke is 94Kg. Not a bad effort in his sort time.

Just for another comparison/reference…

This was Blicavs pre draft.

True, but that also doesn’t mean that they have a body shape/type that is typically appropriate for AFL football.

This equals risk.

Completely different body shape. Wide, broad shoulders, huge frame to build off, albeit similarly slim at the same age

I just think supporters get caught up in wanting every player to look like some ripped gym junkie, when every player is different and holds weight differently.

If Dods said he was going to draft the next Blicsavs with a top 10 pick he should of been escorted off the Tulla premises.

Exactly…all about the frame.

Another good comparison is Reid. Reid is a similar shape to Blicavs and look at the progress he has made from last preseason to this. Really starting to show some upper body mass.

I think that is true to a degree, but there has only really ever been a few elite players with a build like Coxy. The only one that really comes to mind is Fletcher, but even he was broader.

When you’re looking at history, there is a reason why we should be concerned by Cox’s body.

Nick Bryan is 3cm taller than Cox and about a year older, but I wouldn’t have thought he carrying a lot more weight. The really tall guys take a lot of time.

Angry, angry young man…

Its not about it being aesthetically pleasing for me,
His body looking like that will simply not hold up to a full season of AFL footy.

I would have hoped in 2 and bit years he would look even slightly different to his draft photos, I just compared them and he looks identical.
It does take time though so maybe Nick is just a 5+ year project.

He’s like a caged Lion

Back in the day you’d tape them ankles up big time during preseason stouches to ensure hard grounds and divots etc. didn’t turn your ankles. And I mean tape them right up. Doubly so for the lesser muscled.

Yet you can never legislate for a beast falling over you in a tackle or just any pack situation causing a twist. But layering on support does help minimise those risks. So I hope Cox gets back out there ASAP fully taped and supports intact.

And I hope Hobbsy is our skipper one day.

Whats the bet cox was training on the Etihad turf???

There is bit of a fine line between having an ankle adequately supported and removing ankle mobility increasing the risk at the knee.
