#14 - Jordan Ridley - thru 2029

If he wants to go to Brisbane and they are willing to pay up for him then we should just take it and have it done.

Do we want to keep a perennially injured guy who isn’t fully invested whilst trying to rebuild, if it’s a personal reason what’s the chances he tries again next off season?

I’ve no reason to doubt WD on this, but listening to Jonathan Walsh on the DonTheStat pod last night he suggested that this may actually be a little more mutual, ie Essendon being somewhat proactive in the discussion. Personally, id be really pleased if this was the case

If he wants to go north he can go to the Gold Coast for pick 6.

The lions need Ridley badly and after this finals campaign I think we can name our price and bend them over.

Id happily let him go for a first this year as is

Essendon will not trade him, - b&f winner with 4 years to run on a contract would require a very high price

Just can’t see how a trade could get done. Ridley is a hard player to value, and we would only trade him for overs given his contract status.

Would Brisbane offer their future 1st for Ridley, and if they did, would we accept it?

In my opinion would have a similar trade value to parish, one was AA the other a best and fairest both of their best footy is behind them and injury prone with huge contracts.

Id think most posters would do cartwheels to get a first for parish

Nah, I’ve got a bad neck and a dodgy right quad. Can I just clap with enthusiasm?

I would have Ridley having more value than Parish. The game may be devaluing Parish types a bit, but interceptors like Ridley are still valuable. Plus Ridley is 2 years younger.

I would also have Parish as a slightly tricky player to value. But agreed you would take a first and run for him. But that’s mostly because I think we have some depth in that position at the moment

I agree they are worth more but for a guy who has only had one full season in 21 i would happily take a first and future third and skip to the bank ( ridley iam talking about here)

Ridley played every game in 2020 and most of 2022. Like Parish, he only became injury prone in the last few years.

Hopefully a trade gets done and we move him on

My bad I forgot about the covid affected season being shortened so he did play 20, 21 full seasons.

Not worth a pick under 20….be fortunate if we got it

I dont know, i went last night and sat centre wing in an elevated position. My overwhelming takeaway was the importance of physical, manic, power running mids. Brisbane’s midst are classy but they don’t have the power through the legs and torso in the same way as Geelong. I walked away feeling like Durham is now a more important piece than Merrett. It also makes me reckon Geelong probably get Collingwood in a granny unless degoey and Crisp play a massive part.

As Craig Bellamy has always said time and time again…. If you want to leave the club the door is open. We only want players here that are committed to the club. Anything else serves no purpose.

Our rebuild will be 3-5+ years and in this time Ridley will be early 30s and irrelevant. Get what we can (which should be relatively high considering his contract) and wish him well.
