#16 Josh “Fridge” Begley

Last endorsement we had from a player that I remember was Alex Browne saying the Marty Gleeson was a gun half way through his first season when he'd barely played much VFL and no one knew what to think of him.

Jobe Watson was raving about Zerrett when he joined the club. Said that the other players in the draft must be incredible if they were better than Zerrett. Also said he’d be a 200 game player.

Got the last part wrong I reckon.

Since then Marty Gleeson has played 51 AFL games, barely been sighted in the the VFL, and has a contract for the next couple of years, all after being drafted with pick 53. I reckon he’s going ok.

Has he had games in the midfield at junior levels where he has had 30+ touches? Or is he a low number high impact type?

Can kick with both feet - Some will argue he needs to focus and be elite with one foot.
We'll thats what they're doing with kobe.

Uhhhhh… Thanks for spelling out my point?

From what I've read, he came into TAC cup with a low fitness base, and proceeded to kick ~17 goals in the first 3 games. They then moved him into the midfield where my understanding is he didn't rack up the numbers (fitness base) but showed enough to be drafted top 30. So I don't think he was getting 30+ touches, but he did a LOT of damage forward and showed a lot when moved to the middle.

Wasn't a high possession winner because of his fitness and although he played midfield late in the year he still spent most of his time up forward

What everyone else has said. His numbers for his TAC Cup games are (goals): 15 (6), 11 (3), 12 (2), 19, 19 (1), 18 (2), 22, 17, 20 (4), 19, 16, 17, 20 (1), 13 (2).

As the physical reincarnation of that great Essendon centreman, Bill Box, the Fridge will probably replace Jobe in the middle once the Skipper retires.

That doesn’t agree with the article on the first page which said he scored 16 goals in the first 4 games.

He was a powerhouse "player to beat" in the u17's for UFTY in 2014. They won a premiership in a close game where he dominated in Q4 as third man up. On a field with skinny 16 & 17 year olds he was clearly the most solidly built and enjoyed a real advantage of strength.

Saw him at training today, we got one here I think.

He is looking really fit now, and has that size where, with intent, could really hurt the opposition-literally!!

Asked a bloke who basically goes to most training sessions, and he said Begley is the one most likely out of the draftees.

Guess NAB cup will sortvthat out, can’t wait!!
