Have you raised these concerns with him? Maybe an email or letter?
How many seasons now and penny hasn’t dropped?
1000000 percent disinterested, what was disco thinking, he stated he struggled liking football
I don’t think it’s as much as a ‘penny drop’ moment, as Archie learning to deal with second guessing himself and a severe lack of game day confidence. He has mentioned before he struggles with self belief and it may not be something he can overcome.
He should have played VFL, was a riduculous decision to play him.
I dont think anyone is basing much off saturday. I just think he’s no good
Why was he playing in a practice off of limited training? Why wasn’t he playing vfl( as others are made to) to get up to speed
There is zero excuse for his lack of effort
And Brad by backing him in no matter what has also hurt him more than he has helped him
Yeah, I sort of get it!
I totally agree, and reckon he has been overrated since before he was drafted. Sadly not on his own in the scheme of things.
Nah, I haven’t written him off yet.
Plenty of players underperformed yesterday, and some of them had full preseasons.
I accept he is under heaps of pressure, but that game wasn’t going to move the needle one way or the other.
Perkins first 100 games and the Essendon faithful bashing is simlair to that of Langford in and out of seniors and VFL. New positions.
Some players need the confidence in themselves to know they can perform quarter to quarter - week to week and season to season.
I actually think stripping him back this pre season and building him up will be a confidence boaster for his body and mind.
Yep, by the time he is carried to 200 largely ineffective games, he may gain confidence and even learn to chase!
I dont dislike him as a player, but he is not in my team for round 1. And thats an indictment cos our forward line is pretty awful.
But I’m not Brad so I am sure he will prob be in the team
I’m just hoping he really did have OP. If so, maybe he can be a lot better. Just seemed to have no zip last year, or the power that many drooled over early years. Has got unusual marking ability for his size, which other than Duurs and Duz, frankly we lack. And a good shot at goal, mostly. Haven’t written him off yet.
Perkins - all promise but no performance. FFS on present form he’s a liability - send him back to the Magoos till he shows he can live up to his (unearned) reputation !
What are you talking about in and out? Langford maybe but Perkins has hardly ever been dropped let alone in and out. He was god awful for over half a season then dropped for what 1 game if I remember correctly?
He hasn’t really had his position chopped and changed like Kyle either in my opinion. He had been half-forward and mid for small stints, hardly huge changes and vastly different to Kyle going from HF, Mid, HB, wing, key forward and round again.
The only comparable part of Langford and Perkins is being a passenger for the majority of their careers. If he can eek out two ok seasons like Kyle……. Wow what a waste
Did Essendon say he had o.p last year? I keep seeing this mentioned on here almost as fact, but unsure if that’s news or just people making things up?
He has had 2 really ordinary seasons in a row despite being given a charmed run by Brad. Both years have been pretty much a carbon copy, he was in terrible form for a really long time, finally gets dropped for minimal weeks, then comes straight back in for some reason like he is an A grader.
I think he’s pretty much done as a footballer, but i hope I’m wrong because he will get selected most of the year regardless. So we don’t want a liability in a forward line that lacks applying f50 pressure like previous years.
I’m astounded by these sorts of posts, and its coming from quite a few in here.
He’s going through a challenging period and who knows if its confidence, injury, or a combo of both.
He has enough weapons to become a good serviceable AFL player.
If its not with us, then another team will benefit.
Yeah I have just always been of the opinion that 2 really poor seasons in a row with no injury interruptions, when his level of performances wasn’t that high before that anyway, isn’t a great sign.
I hope he turns it around, just at this stage I’d be surprised if he does. Not many players get a run like that and backed in by the coach like that, he even moved stringer on coz he wanted to give that role to Archie. Gifted a lot of games and given prime midfield minutes, most players would die by for an opportunity like that, but he has unfortunately gone backwards.
I doubt moving Stringer on had much at all to do with Archie.
No question he hasn’t kicked on since game 75-ish.
Not going to give up on him just yet.
Brad said just as much in an interview that part of moving stringer along was to give better opportunities to a player he had earmarked for that role, I’m sure it was Archie, nobody else played that medium size forward/centre bounce mid mix.
