There’s a few guys in the reserves that if they perform in the VFL should be eyeing Perkins midfield minutes. Perkins should play ahead of them because he’s dangerous forward of centre, but not lately. He needs to lift if he wants to keep his spot.
Worst Archie on our list
Hope you saw the 50m bullet pass to Caddy. Caldwell and Merrett, maybe Langford are the only three who can hit that pass in our team. (Redman sometimes…). Archie stays.
I did but also doesn’t excuse the burning, Caddy deserved that and was pretty clear in space
He’s consistent
Agree … he’s pretty well used up his credits.
But he’s being deployed as part tagger but not doing that greatly, nor giving us much when he gets space and the ball. He’s lost confidence and it shows.
But I reckon given this great win they’ll all get around him and roll the dice one more time with Archie v Dees next week.
Its up to Archie. He has to lift … because we can’t carry him now we’re in the business end of the season.
I think Archie plays a role like Stringer but with minimal impact atm, he seems to always be forward of the ball or reacting too late to get in position defensively. he relies on others feeding him the ball. He isn’t one to get the loose ball gets or try to be the out number at the contest.
Stringer, wright and Perkins are a worry with our defensive pressure although Stringer has worked on this aspect this year.
Dont forget riddles
I’ll admit. I’m an Archie fanboy.
I don’t get all the criticism. He isn’t firing on all cylinders but he was actually quite good with ball in hand again last night.
He dropped a mark that got rebounded really quickly but that was an outlier and skill errors happen in footy.
All the angst is misplaced…what did people say about Caldwell at the same stage, Langford, Redman etc.
He’s going to be a fine player. Just keep sending him up, I’m seeing a contributor right here right now.
He should be in the gun to get dropped. I love him as a player but he needs a bit of stick right now. He keeps underperforming.
Started off the season well, ■■■■ now
You’re forgetting Durham. He sends them low and fast and to exactly the right place. Langford can thank him for a goal last night.
He was a starting mid for us in rd1 with 27 CBA’s
As such around the ball a lot more and able to have more impact
Last night he had 7 CBA’s only, is playing a lot more forward and thus seeing less of it.
Others are now being preferred in the guts and can’t argue with their impact in particular Caldwell and Durham.
…
Mids looking up and have Langford, Caddy, Wright and Stringer as who they tend to target mostly fwd also
I’m a fan of Archie and think he will be an outstanding player if he does the work, but he’s been off for a while now and has some bad habits that need fixing. I don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes, but I hope someone is talking to him about his poor defensive running, and his lack of urgency when he hasn’t got the ball in his hands.
Another couple of weeks of this and he’ll be due for a spell. I’d make him sub next week just to sharpen the message.
Whatever role he’s playing, he’s not having any impact. He’s not having midfield impact nor is he kicking goals. He hasn’t remotely looked likely up forward this year.
He doesn’t look as fit as most of his teammates, needs a big preseason
When you are out of form, and things are not going for you (eg when Redman kicked it over his head in the 2nd qtr when he was in space, 40m out), you just need to go back to basics. I would tell him to take a look at how Durham goes about it, burrow in, lay tackles, chase and run your backside off. Don’t worry about possession count or being flash. Just work and it will flow out of doing the defensive things and the pressure acts. Hang in there.
Needs to lose the pink boots until he earned them.
The defensive, pressuring side of the game is not in Perkins dna.
It is his greatest flaw.
All the more reason to emphasise it. It’s the easiest thing to do when you aren’t in form. Tell him to focus on it and make that his source of contributing for now.
