#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

If he’s currently playing half-forward then his figures are not terrible. Definitely down. But not terrible for the role. If Redman hits him probably has his goal too.

This is the beauty of having depth. I love Perkins but he’s past the stage of been gifted games for development. He now needs to be consistent, if someone is putting their hand up at VFL level that plays a similar role give them a go. Then it’s up to Perkins to win his spot back with good form. This makes everyone better.

I think he’ll be a midfielder going forwards, and I think he’ll be a bloody good one. I don’t think he’s a hff as people keep suggesting. I also don’t think we play him in the VFL, deapite his form at times probably warranting it.

But his fitness isn’t there yet, and could benefit greatly from less time on ball atm. Hopefully Shiel back, and later Parish facilitates this and his form picks up from here.

I think this pretty much sums it up.

His ability to deliver by foot isn’t in question it’s his ability to get involved in the game across 4 qtrs.

The apparent lack of fitness and running capability is ultimately going to dictate how far he can go.

Even lead up to that play, Perkins sent a bullet to Sam Durham, but Sammy dropped it. Luckily it bounced into open space behind and he was able to run onto it. When Perko dropped it, unfortunately it went straight to a Collingwood player. Just luck sometimes.

I actually think he is one that could really benefit by playing a full game of midfield in the vfl, for however long it takes for him to nail the role.
Bring Hobbs in, who can also play the forward role until then.
Im not fussed if we keep him in the team though. I think he is playing his role.

well most were saying a year and a bit ago calders is one of the better mids we have and why the ■■■■ is he being played as a HFF.
redman circa 2019/20 ish most were raving about the great run and gun HBF’er we had.
langford i’ll give you.

this is his raw numbers

obviously without context can only show a certain light to his trajectory, but he’s obviously down on what he was producing earlier season, which you admit, to what degree people are seeing is obviously worth a debate or discussion on the issue, as perkins early season was looking like taking the next step and being a decent mid and or mid rotation player.
to now you barely notice him or his impact.

Does anyone have a breakdown round by round of his CBA stats for the year?

Needs to be dropped to the twos, lacks effort, intensity and at times plays a bit soft. He has a lot of talent and I think it will be a wake up call that he needs.

It was somewhat symbolic when he dropped that mark in the last that cost us a goal. The downfield camera showed Merret chasing Harrison desperately whilst Perkins was jogging along……the penny needs to drop

CBA stats are on the AFL app/site, some sites track the breakdown weekly but I think they’re paywalled

Some comparisons with other Essendon players and with other similar types of players at the same age.

Archie attended 7 against Pies. A low percentage.

I’ve always said he isn’t a mid and we’re trying to convert him into something that he’s not.

Play him half forward.

Especially when we have 3 genuine mids in the VFL as well as an injured Parish.

What website dd you use for that?

He’ll never graduate from around the ground stoppage to regular centre bounces if he keeps letting ■■■■ like that Crisp goal happen.

But otherwise he’s so close yet so far. IF he holds that mark, IF he kicks that goal on the run, IF he doesn’t make a meal of that one against Carlton a few weeks ago.

I think it’s time to stop improving on the things he’s not so good at and maximising the things he is good at.
