#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

If you watch the tape you’d see a lot of this from him this year. Very much a bit one way unfortunately at the moment.

Absolutely has the talent. Needs to find his position, and show us he can play both ways.

He’ll be fine I’m sure but hard to argue he’s not first one on the block to come out of the side atm

So you say when Parish is fit?
In Parish
Out Perkins?

I wouldn’t be opposed to managing him in the final third of the HnA season, get him ready for finals footy and give some exposure to another player so they can get some senior footy, also in prep for finals

I’ve watched the first 3 Q’s of the VFL match.

No disrespect to Roberts, I think he has something, but if Archie Perkins made the same amount Of unforced errors that Archie Roberts did on the weekend then this thread would be even more unbearable.

Phillipou has just done a block of games in the VFL and come back better the ever.

Perhaps that would work for Perkins.

I’ve just rewatched the first 3 quarter of our game and reckon Perkins has done enough to stay in the side. He was on both Degoey and Daicos at various times and delivered the ball well most of the time. I will agree that after watching the VFL I’d have him above Roberts.

I love Archie and think he will ultimately be a top 6 player.

The dropped mark was a lapse of concentration. He does that too often and I think he needs to stamp that out of his game. That type of error is so costly and can demoralise the team.

I think he could do with a break in the VFL, put him on notice, fire him up and get him back better and stronger.

But I love him, will be a star.

Yep, I think they are concentration lapses, and often fatigue related. He is still building a tank for on ball. We are giving him tough roles at times as well, guys like DeGoey and Crisp are strong seasoned players.
I also liked how he took a strong chest mark across half back later in the quarter, after fluffing the earlier one.

Yep agree, think he will be alright but doesn’t deserve a spot at the moment.

Scott will get behind him. Expect a better A Perkins next week.

Half forward only, his passing of the football is elite.

His workrate not so, this can be worked on yes, I see him as a goal kicker though.

Scott needs to get in his ear though, his workrate off the ball is terrible

His production has reduced because he’s spending more time forward…

He’s been a bit off but is still doing a lot of good stuff in games. I’d keep playing him (for now anyway).

Until Parish is back and there is a genuine question to ask, I’d keep playing Perkins and in much the same role he is in currently.

The midfield variety and mix looked pretty good and pretty balanced on the weekend with Merrett, Durham, Caldwell, Shiel, Perkins and very occasional stints from Stringer.

I’d rather we invest in him right now than Setterfield. If we persist and he comes out the other side of this it could be the making of him to go to that next level.

And at least you know that Perkins can do damage forward of centre, either with that inside 50 kick or through dobbing a goal himself which is an area that the other candidates aren’t all that great in (Setters, Tsatas, Hobbs).

If Hobbs absolutely belted it out of the park in the 2’s on Saturday then he’s the one I’d have looked at but he looked short of his best.

I wouldn’t be changing Perkins role at all, he is paying a role assigned each week and at time its a negating one. But he adds so much on offense with his kicking and ability to just role and go and break tackles. Also I think he hasn’t quite got the mental application for a full season and is prob feeling the pinch of a season with midfield time. But what he does have is the mental capacity to build himself up and go after it. I have a sneaky feeling he is going to go bananas if we make finals.

Arshavir is due a good game. Surely.

Bloody hell, his first game of the year was nuts. I remembered it was good, I forgot how good it was. 24 disposals, 12 tackles, 2 goals. If we can unearth this form into consistency, then look out!

Having said that, I completely agree with the post from @2-30Brunswickst re VFL depth. Blokes like Shiel and Setterfield would be primed to make their return.

Im an advocate of giving Perkins a rest. bring in a fresh Setterfield.

I feel Perkins has been flagging this year as it has drawn on and he is getting worn down.

if you look at who performed well after the Bye - Stringer and Caldwell.
Caldwell on fire post bye

Langford has improved post bye as well. think that rest freshened him up.

Setterfield does not fit in our team balance IMO. Even more so with Shiel in. Setterfield is on ball or VFL….and wouldn’t be displacing anyone to play Setters on ball

Keep Archie, he’ll come good again, Setterfield is too safe and boring
