#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

Fairly certain I’ve read on here he is part of our “party boy” posse that don’t take football that seriously.

Swear I’ve heard that be mentioned around here a few times with a few other of the younger boys as well.

Brad Scott preaching about the guys needing to lift standards etc all singing the same song that there’s some issues under the hood with the team not helping themselves be the best they can be, sounds like.

He’s shown glimpses of being a genuine super talent, just zero consistency. Is it role? I don’t know.

If we could replace Perkins or Hobbs with Alex Davies from Suns, I’d do that. He’s shown to have that hard edge and at least be a relentless tackler and have upside I’d gamble can turn into a real player given opportunity.

Q: what is Perkins role? Is he expected to be the Stringer role when Stringer is gone? He’s not that good of a forward. I genuinely don’t know what he is supposed to be. He’s behind everyone else in the midfield it seems.

Google Archie Perkins footywire

This comes up

“Public figure”

Sounds about right…

Edit: ignore that it does it for Merrett too so I assume everyone gets that, but it’s fitting for Archie for it not to say Footballer.

Who do we think the party boys are at Essendon? If i was to hazard a guess it’d be

Draper (C)
Perko (VC)
Hobbs
Caldwell (even though he is an absolute gun footballer)
Cox
Bryan?
Guelfi

Jones aswell apparently goes pretty hard

I would happily trade him for a late first

Doesnt have to feel that level of need to chase. Silver spoon type.

Correct

Problem is, this is the batch all coming up together and they’re all taking the ■■■■, literally I guess too.

Didn’t target the Uber professional perfectionist competitive hard edge types. You know, the ones that help you win.

I might be harsh but the way to stop it is to trade one or two of them and set the tone to the rest of them, this includes the older guys aswell

Not harsh.
Required.

I would trade Hobbs this offseason.

Perkins gets one more year, this is his ultimatum year.

I would let Shiel go if Saints offer two years. I’d let Stringer go if anyone wants him too. Restructure balance of our forward line but not completely against him staying.

Think that’s the bulk of what I’d look to shed for now.

Goldy, probably overkill to have 4 rucks but vigo realistically isn’t going to be near playable so it’s two rucks and Draper hasn’t had a clean injury history, so can get my head around one more year as break in case of emergency, and I think it’s really to fudge coaching soft cap stuff…

Then yeah, actually one more, Weid. Hold Lav and if Baldwin comes good sign him back on, I did rate what he showed when healthy, and he’d only be an if gets through the preseason. Can provide a different look in backline and good user of the ball.

Hoping Lav to not be required to play ones next year at all but do need playable depth as injuries always come up. Not entirely sure Baldwin and Hayes would cut it if Lav was to go as depth but it could be, so maybe Lav if you want to chase the extra year, ciao too.

This would open up plenty of spots. No idea how we’d fill them…

Agree with everything expect hold lav id happily let him go and sign a vfl backman instead

I wouldn’t even be against that.
Or make Langford go back
Or Cox, or you know what, just rebalance the backline to be smaller and more agile, so maybe we don’t even need anyone else anyways.

Since it’s the Perkins thread.
I hope they train him in the backline this year. I don’t think he can be guaranteed a spot in the middle or forward. He’s had plenty of opportunities but really only put in a handful of decent performances and probably only two good games for his entire career. He is terrible with forward pressure so perhaps with a clear job in the backline he might be able to defend, then his natural vision and disposal might actually be useful. At the very worst, he might at least learn the importance of defending and applying pressure.

Good call.
Just try it, and give it a proper trial.
ie. All year.

I love his ability to spot options in the corridor and pull the trigger with his kicking.

Have some patience that his defensive work improves.

The only reason I’m not saying trade is because he’s a damn good field kick and we need as many of those that we can get.

I hadn’t once considered trialling him behind the ball, but we did it with Langford a couple years back, makes sense actually.

He’d have to learn a lot fast, things like, this is what repeat efforts look like…but he can field kick, will give him that.

A good friend of mine has a son with friends who played footy through school with Archie. He’s a massive party boy from what I’ve been told. So, probably not far off the mark.

Durham is a genuinely explosive player, has a serious burst of speed. Archie does not.

Durham is also very very clean below his knees. Archie is not

I’m not sure if naming/shaming Hobbs in this way is based on anything? First I’ve heard of him in that so-called party boy group.
