Given he is effectively missing 3 weeks of AFL with the VFL Bye, could we argue this to get it down to 1 week.
Why is a 19-year-old 200cm tall considered not rated by Brad? He is only now starting to find some better form. Last year he was well short. Its also up to Kayle to get selected.
And the being played out of position part?
I would say due to having McMahon and Jones as forwards, but Hayes missing (ACL) was main reason we tried him in defence.
That i dont know. Clearly want him to have a better defensive aspect to his gameā¦maybe more a mindset thing. Vigo causing some hindrance to his devleopment alsoā¦and we have an overabundance of average forwards on the list clogging those spots (need a few cut EOY)
For mine, he lacked fwd craft and concentration, a good way to develop that is to follow a fwd around in the VFL to educate him on what it takes to play as a fwd. Then he can take those learnings when he is switched back to play fwd at some stage
Letās stifle a young forward/rucks development so we can play a couple of list cloggers up forward.
He spent a lot of his under 18 year as a ruckman, but clearly lacks height to be a ruck at AFL level at 199cm. He projects as a third forward/relief ruck IMO.
I donāt mind him being sent to defence if that is where he is closest for a game.
Yeah it may impact development, but also in the past we ahve sucked at VFL level, so could be starvation corner. And there may be learnings playing in defence.
I think its crucial he gets to relief ruck though. work on that aspect.
Probably easier introduction to VFL footy as a defender over a forward.
When we shifted him to defence all of Hayes, Ridley, Reid and McKay were injured and weād just started Blackiston in the seniors as a KPD.
It may also have been to get him more involved across the game. Up forward he showed some nice plays but went missing for long periods.

I donāt think you can blame Visi when they didnāt play him in the ruck as chop out, at all in the game Visi got injured in Q2, and only in Q4 in the latest match.
Yeh more talking last year. But saying that i donāt see Kayle as a ruck option. Has to be key position at 199cm
Iām not sure why Visi is in his way either this year then.
Ironically, Iād like him to be partly in his way as I think we should also be developing Visiās forward craft.
Has to be key position at 199cm
I agree, but Luke Jackson is also 199cm. And can do it both. Not saying he has that talent.
Bryan/Vissentini are really ruck only, whereas Gerryn has the mobility and agility to play multiple positions, so could be better as the ruck partner, in a post Peter Wright future.
May is the one that is currently ahead of him for that forward spot.
Visiās first season or two were mostly forward as Bryan was the main ruck and he showed decent signs playing there.
This is the right way to develop him for the moment as a key position defender. I donāt see a ruckman in him.
That left foot kick shows he will be a player.
For the moment he can craft away in the VFL, but he definitely should be getting 4-5 AFL games at some point this year. I thought we waited too long to give Hayes some games with similar development.
Thatās fair. Maybe in my head i mean pecking order of rucks/talls
Yep. These sort of things confuse me too. If they recruited a genuine forward / ruck, develop him as one! At least the forward bitā¦
I wonder if their thinking on Kayle is influenced by having the other young key forwards on the list? If so, have they lost faith in his forward prospects (1) or have they lost faith in him (2)? it could be neither!
I see something there but his time at Essendon to date regarding his development confuses me somewhat.
Heās 19. Blitz really needs to learn patience.
I still think Forward/Ruck is where he will end up. But a couple of years learning defensive craft will do him good. Make him a much better forward and give him a defensive mindset as a ruckman.
When the list clogging forwards get chopped I sense we will revisit his future spot.
