#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

No doubt he does mate, but i dont buy in he will leave if doesnt, thats all.

I would think the club just needs to work out what level of salary would get the highest compo and offer him that. If he wants to go, he’ll get that matched or bettered by whoever wants him. And then we get a pick after our first.
If he stays, also fine.

Player development is ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  and that apparently is what George prides himself on

Vigo is unknown and Bryan is average, Goldie is ancient, just what are those good options ?

If we lose Draper

Max Ramsden ooc next year 22 years old cant get a game ahead of Meek at Hawks

The swans are fine re: crowds. They just need wins.

They keep getting 38k in a stadium that’s only fits 48k. And a ā– ā– ā– ā–  load of those seats are SCC members.

Draper would be ok but imho their main target is a proper forward. (Small and tall)

And Sammy is only playing #1 ruck wherever he plays.

Bryan’s only 23. I’d say he’s one of the better 23 yr old rucks in the comp

Bryan had altready taken Draper’s #1 spot and projects as getting even better. Visentini looks very promising.

That’s not really true. If we had two fit Drapers, one would’ve played forward and the other first ruck.

Vigo is a child, Bryan has played 23 games and is coming off an acl, and Goldy should call it a day at season’s end.

Band 2 compo in a shallow and compromised draft would be horrible outcome.

Given the alternative is probably Bryan leaving for little, band 2 compo would be fine.

I disagree.

I love Sammy and his energy. But he’s injury prone, inconsistent and seems like he only got seriously fit because he is in a contract year. Happy if he stays, not end of world if he goes.

He’s a tall from a non traditional footy background who was finally coming into his prime years having dealt with OP and hip issues just like a couple of our previous talls.

He gets himself injury free and fit, strong and lean as he’s ever been, and he starts to add key forward craft and goal kicking to his bag of tricks, on top of being one of the few non-vanilla, x-factor players in the side …

To criticise him for not being better sooner while also somewhat diminishing his obvious improvement prior to injury because he’s in a contract year seems like some pretty harsh marking.

Both of those players were too direct in what they said . Mainly to the followers of panda and the Portsea crew make of that what you will

Only reason Bryan took the number 1 ruck spot is because Draper is versatile and can play forward. Draper best position is number 1 ruck but was playing forward because the coaches had lost confidence in Wright as a tall forward. If all were fit today I believe Bryan would be playing VFL.
Also, I notice no one ever sooks about Draper being played out of position, that’s because he’s was making a good fist of his role for the benefit of the team.

They were both good players - is that the message? No matter how talented you are you can’t stay unless you suck up to Brad
Stringer had his off field community/charity activities and actually kicked goals.

Love Drapes but that Achilles injury really worries me, take the compo and target an area of need, would hate to see Vigo snapped up by another club.

The why is likely to be this, 1st - ACL, 2nd - Ruptured Achilles (both on his massive frame) & 3rd - huge Value as part of a rebuild.

I understand where you are coming from as I absolutely love the way Draper was playing this year prior to injury. Tough, uncompromising, does the unthinkable and is a huge leader onfield and influence to getting the boys up.

Players come back from major injuries in great Nick these days (Bailey smith the latest example). Realistically if I was to put a draft value on our key rucks it would be Draper (pick 5) and Bryan (pick 20). It feels like if we lose either it will be for an end of first roundish pick so if one needs to go it would be Bryan.

Draper offers something completely different to anyone else in our side. One of the best in the league at crashing packs and bringing the ball to ground, is a ruck that can break away from stoppage, and the energy he brings to the team is second to none. It’ll be a big step back if we lose him.

We talk about needing A grade talent on our list. Draper is that, he just hasn’t figured out how to put it all together yet. He is in his 5th year of afl footy one more than Bryan, and was taken from soccer so it was always going to take more time

And let Vigo rot in the VFL or get poached by another club, no thanks,
We blew our opporttunity to take Clug and we didn’t have the stones to unload Parish when his draft capital was peak, please don’t fk this opportunity up to net a top 10 pick for an injury prone player, I swear it will be another crossroads moment for this club that continues to set us apart from the top teams.
