#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

Chat on BF that 900k is being offered by both clubs, Crows more years. That’s band 1 territory and insane money.

Too much for me, I’d rather the compo pick.

If Draper said he wants to stay why is this even a discussion?

Insane. If true.

Houston said he wanted to stay at Port 3 weeks before he requested a trade, players say things.

Allen wants to stay at West coast as well apparently.

I still maintain he is staying BUT if the club is even remotely thinking of moving him on we need to tank and not win another game all year.
I don’t want to be cobbling enough wins together and is finish 10-13th. Tank like hell and take pick 1&2 or 2&3

There is no way in hell we should be offering him that sort of money on 4 or more years. He’s not consistent enough to justify that sort of investment.

It’s high time this club sucks up the embarrassment of a ‘star’ leaving in favour of list management.

3 top 10 picks with 2 in the top 4 or 5 if exactly what we need.

Of course we’d probably give two of them away for Harley…

Yeah fair point but Draper doesn’t come across as the type to deceive fans that way, if anything he is too honest.

I’d love the pick, and maybe if the Crows finish 15 spots above us he may want to leave, but I took his words as truth.

If there is any truth to that offer then it is absolutely in everyone’s best interests that Draper has a career best season. Fingers crossed he stays fit and goes from strength to strength. At some point in the year I’d like to see him as the number one ruck for a stretch too because I imagine if he smashes it in that role, the Crows would be taking plenty of note as well. They’re stacked for tall forward options.

Yeah, Sam seems a pretty straight shooter.

Suspect he’ll stay at Essendon. It screams re-signing that gets announced after we’ve lost five games on the trot midseason and the club wants a positive news story.

I agree but we don’t need to tank to finish bottom four. We’re rubbish. Worse than last year. We’re a bottom 6 lock. Dead last or even second bottom would look very suspect.

Before academy and father son picks we’ll end up with 3 first rounders with the lowest one being pick 7 if Draper goes - I’ve done the maths and run the simulations.

I still think it’s a massive leap to say that Bryan can ruck alone.
Perhaps he just needs that Ryder ANZAC Day moment (that was seldom repeated).

I’m not seeing it, though.
But hey…we do actually have most of a season to figure that out.

It’s a weird one.
Leaving aside the fact that he’s Hooker levels of staying.
Ignoring that.

It’s the collective of draft picks that people are excited about.
You could not possibly be excited about trading him for #5 on its own.

But hell yeah he’d make the Crom even More exciting to watch.

Bryan is gonna have to ruck alone. And by ‘alone’ I mean 80 odd percent of game time. Two rucks doesn’t work unless they’re Simon Madden types. Keep in mind, Bryan’s still only 23.

Why wouldn’t we be happy to take pick 5 for Draper?

Because Draper is a guaranteed best 22 player.
He wins the ruck.
He gets clearances from centre bounces.
He’s actually becoming a KPF with unorthodox but Darcy Fogarty level accuracy.

You don’t…you don’t make that trade.

What you do do is make that trade because it bolsters your hand for a Godfather offer.

Simply put, you do not trade Draper for Tsatas.

We can’t afford to get rid of draper. We have no other viable ruckman, and nobody dare suggest Bryan. We have ■■■■■■ his development so hard.

You make that trade if the currency could be better used elsewhere. Not that I’m hellbent on trading him but imagine swapping Draper for someone that’s fast and good kick - two things we sorely lack and two things that Draper isn’t.

We have a competent list manager. I’d back him to steer clear of the Tsatas types.

True, if we get rid of Draper we won’t be a good football team anymore.

So many believe we are years away, maybe over those years we draft a ruck who is a viable replacement. Heck maybe we trade one in for a 4th round pick, Ramsden, Reidy, Reeves. Hawks did it with Meek.

A top 5 pick for a ruckman is something you need to heavily consider.

I’m not sure if you’re agreeing with me or not.

You make that trade as a part of a megatrade.

You do not trade Draper for #5 in isolation.
That’s just stupid.

If Tsatas is too small a thingy.

Tsatas
Mac Andrew
Branden Campbell
Dylan Stephens
Connor Rozee
Adam Cerra

I do not like those odds.

You know what the thing…the actual thing is?
The thing people are suggesting we do if we let Draper go?
We can totally do anyway.

Yeah, you could but you give yourself a greater probability of doing it optimally with a top 10 pick.
Why would being happy to receive 5 for Draper be stupid?

Nobody dare suggest the guy who is currently playing no.1 ruck for us?
