2016-17 List changes

Goddard will be top 2 …Zacha third !

Zaharakis will probably come third in the B&F, behind Zerrett and Daylight.

He is not tradable, especially not next year. He is a good user of the footy, breaks lines and is just starting to get his body right. Next year he won’t be tagged anywhere as near as often.

I would be amazed if zaka finished top 5 let alone top 3.

Guys who i think will finish above him:

Zac
Loony
Hartley
Tippa
Dea
Kelly
Maybe Joe

I’d be staggered if Loony, Hartley, Tippa or Dea finished ahead of him.

Trading Zaka would be a terrible way to say thanks for turning down the supps program, setting the pace for fitness and busting a gut through a ridiculously tough year. If you believe that we ‘owe’ those that were suspended, we ‘owe’ Zaka.

If McKenna stays..he plays on the main list. He has the ability

If??

Yeah if he wants too…

Would you trade Zaha for pick 2? I would.

Virtually every player is tradeable for a price. Our ones that are not would be Hep, Zach, Darcy, Francis, Joe.

No way we are trading Zaka.

After a flat spot of the year where he seemingly threw the towel in he worked his way back. 10tackle last game and finished quite high in year for total tackles is a big plus for him IMO.

Cooney gets the “icing” talk but it will be Zaka doing so in 2017.

If we have Watson, Heppell, Zerrett, O’Meara & Stanton for the opposition to deal with… Then Zaka will be getting off the chain. As will Colyer & Parish.

Lid off.

We're just not in a position where we can hang onto guys who've never really shown they're going to make it, or they're past it.

For me…
Out
Hibberd
Ashby
Dempsey
Pears
Cooney
Edwards
Kommer
Gwilt
McKernan
Hams ®

Promote:
Walla
McKenna
Long

Leaves us 6 ND picks and 3 rookie picks
One of the 6 will be used for Dea
If we use another for Kelly, we’ll have to probably keep Jake Long on the rookie list (can’t wait till they scrub the rookie list).

I just don’t think we can rely on LTIs to be able to use McKenna or Long.

Don’t trade in players unless we have a. Need and b. Space
So I’d probably only trade for a big forward or a gun mid.

Hopefully get O’Meara or AN Other at the PSD

Rookie HepA and another backup ruckman.

That about sums it up for me too. If we can’t get a back up ruck then re-rookie McKernan.

Gun mid and gun KPF are the only gaps on the list worth considering. Otherwise we have 4 dips in the draft.

Now that the AFL has decreed that you go to the draft with the same number of picks as you have list vacancies, does this mean clubs can no longer make “goodwill” trades to get delisted players to new clubs quicker (ie - Geelong trading Chappy to us so he could start training a few weeks earlier than if we had to wait to sign him as a DFA)? It used to be that you had to use any pick you traded for, but then the AFL changed it to allow greater movement of fringe/unwanted players. You could trade pick for 95 or whatever to send an axed player to another club even though you had no intention of using it. Is this still the case, or is it another AFL rule-change on the fly?

I don’t believe so. During trade period, you can still sign/delist your own players, so there’s no definitive number of available list slots. Presumably any extra picks you have come draft night just won’t be allocated, because there’s no advantage to trading in picks that you’re then not allowed to use.

Yep, the new rule does not affect the trading of picks.

It just affects the picks you can take to the draft.

As such, while the academy clubs could still stockpile picks for points, they will be less inclined to do so because they won’t want to take that many picks to the draft. Why? Because they have to have a list spot available for each pick they take to the draft.

Trading zacha would be crap show of faith who despite some deficiencies has been in many ways the face of the club in turbulent times.

Zak won’t leave or get traded. Talk about ripping out the fabric.

Reading through the changes I think we have consensus on:

Outs
Delisted - Kommer, Ashby, Dempsey, Edwards
Traded - Hibberd
Retired - Cooney, Pears

Ins
Rookie upgrade - Tippa
Delisted Free Agent - Dea

That leaves conjecture on the following:
-McKernan - personally I would be keeping. He adds versatility to the list and showed at the back end of 2015 that he can play to the required level. If he can take the required amount of mongrel into each game he will succeed.
-Gwilt - happy to thank him for his service. I think with Brown going back on the last few rounds the likelihood of Gwilt staying shrunk. He is now between Hurley, Hartley, Ambrose and Brown for taking on the big forwards. Add in Francis and pssobily Hooker and he is even further down the pecking order. As for playing on smells he is behind Baguley and fingers crossed Dea. Also I think Gleeson, McKenna and Tippa if he goes back are far better users of the ball.
-Hams - another keeper for me but on the rookie list. Showed he can play AFL this year after a horrible few years. I think he is getting stronger and better each game and is still very young, even in AFL terms.

The final argument is around upgrading Long. My preference would be to keep him on the rookie list for another year. After another preseason he should be super hungry and ready to go as soon as the opportunity arises.

in an absolute heartbeat. i’d trade zaharakis for anything above pick 15

if zaharakis played for any other club, everyone on this board would call him out for being a pea heart who goes missing and cant shake a tag. has never delivered on his promise aside from b&f year and first half of this season

You can criticise a player without calling him names, mate. Unless you have a tiny ■■■■■, of course.

Which one of these sounds like a pea heart??

Person A

A footballer who:

  • is an outside mid, but stepped up and played a different role for the team when most of his “inside” teammates got suspended
  • had more disposals than the season he won our B&F (also career best)
  • had more contested possessions than the season he won our B&F
  • had more clearances than the season he won our B&F (also career best)
  • laid more tackles than the season he won our B&F (also career best)
  • topped 30 disposals 9 times in 2016

OR

Person B

  • A a flog calling Person A a pea heart

I’d contemplate trading out gutteral…unsurprisingly misspelled. I can’t see how we can trade out Zaka without affecting the morale in the club.

I don’t think we should be drafting Kelly. It just stifles the progress of our young guys.

I’m not even sure I’d bother trading in too many, unless they’re guns, or potential guns. No more superannuants.

If we were going to trade Zaharakis, it was two years ago. That ship has now sailed and we would get no where near what he is actually worth to us. For us now, it would need to be a top 5-8 pick and no club will give us that pick for him.

I’ve been a big critic of Zaharakis in the past. He’s taken his game to the next level this year. We should not be trading him when he’s finally got his work rate up and started winning some hard ball.
