Burton is 1yr 5mths older & thus had extra preseason / development.
Given the stats are fairly even.
McGrath should win.

I think this talk of extra pre seasons etc is irrelevant. He’s eligible for the award or he wouldn’t have been nominated and you have to judge the winner on their 2017 season only.
Something that is relevant is that they played completely different roles. Burton often played loose while McGrath was always responsible for the number 1 or 2 small forward.
Burton has better offensive numbers and McGrath better defensive outcomes. I reckon judges usually go with the attacking numbers and Burton will win it. No real issue though. Nobody will care in 5 years when he’s a top level player in the league.

Essendon nominee Andrew McGrath says retiring teammate James Kelly took him under his wing in 2017, leaving a parting gift for the Bombers.
