Nice player but an outside midfielder. We have 3, maybe 4 picks in this draft and 2 have to be inside midfielders in my opinion.

Ideally I would want one 188cm+ tall inside mid with a strong body. (just due to our lack of height through the midfield)
Are Stephens stats down due to injury?
did you use last years stats?

He is like Aaron Hall, really good runner on the outside and can win plenty of the ball but he gets barely any contested footy and doesn’t offer much defensively

Thanks very much

TD1 Dylan Williams from all reports Dylan Williams was a kid rated very highly last year but has had injury and inconsistency this year.

Is he a boy that could be a steal at our pick - how do you rate him?

I think he would be a steal, questions on his body and work ethic/endurance but he has some exciting traits and reminds me a lot of De Goey without the midfield craft De Goey had at junior level.

Some things I read suggested as high as top 5 this time last year - is he a chance to get to us?

This is my best mates son, he played for metro last year but had an interrupted year this year, possibly a rookie if a club takes a liking to him but will likes be plying is trade in the VFL or SANFL next season. It’s a shame because (totally biased, I know) he definitely has the fortitude to make it. His intent on the footy and the man is really strong he was right up there in the tac cup for tackles before his mid year break and only just got back to fitness before finals. He’s super calm under pressure and genuinely makes good decisions. He played mainly as a small forward this year largely due to his size, but his stints in the midfield showed all his traits.

Hope he gets a chance, he really deserves it, you be hard pressed to find a more committed kid. On field, he has a touch of the Puopolos about him.

Edit. That one on the left out of traffic against the Lions he was actually coming off injured. He’s very team oriented, always does the team thing, probably this year to his detriment as he could have been a bit more goal hungry

Philp & Taheney for our first two picks and I’d be stoked.

Josh Worrell who is a highly touted player in the upcoming 2019 draft talks about his journey as an Essendon supporter and being coach by James Hird at Prahran under 14’s. Makes you want to draft this kid🙏

PLAYING UNDER HIRDY

Worrell fondly remembers his junior footy stint at Prahran, where he was coached by one of this century’s best AFL players and most controversial figures.

Worrell represented Prahran’s Division 1 Under 14 side in 2015 – a team that was coached by Essendon legend James Hird, who at the time was also back in charge of the Bombers’ AFL team after serving an AFL-imposed one-year suspension for his role in the club’s infamous doping saga. Later that year, he would be sacked as Dons coach. Months later, 34 past and present players were suspended by CAS.

But according to Worrell, Hird never showed signs of burden or dispassion as he coached his Under 14s – an observation that has always remained with Worrell, who was – and remains – a mad Essendon supporter.

“That was a very eye-opening experience … it was amazing,” he says.

“It was right through the whole saga and it taught me a lot in a sense that he came through to each training session, each match just happy and focusing on what’s at hand instead of dwelling on what’s going on around him. For me it taught me that football’s an escape from everything else. You can look to not worry about it so much.

“He was a hero my whole life and seeing him get dragged through the media like that was very upsetting for me. But knowing him on a personal level really changed my views on him. That’s what made the difference knowing how caring he was, even to an Under 14s Prahran side – not even a proper AFL club – I can imagine how caring he would’ve been for those Essendon players.

“If people knew him on an individual and personal level, they would’ve changed their mindsets on him.”

Worrell says he keeps in occasional touch with Hird – “we’ve had a few texts here and there” – but mainly holds on to the key advice he provided four years ago.

“What James said to us was ‘boys, you have to deal with a lot of schoolwork and other stuff throughout the week, so this is the one time of the week where you get to go out there and do what you want to do’ – that’s what I took on board mostly,” Worrell says.

“Knowing that he was going through his whole saga, I think that’s what he did as well. It meant a lot.”
