I don’t think it will be anywhere near like 2001 - at that point we were making a GF like once every 4 years, making finals almost every year - hugely successful. Everyone hated our ■■■■■■■ guts.
Richmond were a dumpster fire for 30 years, I know I almost pitied them.
Was a sarcastic answer but reason he said it is because it’s been impossible to get tickets to the grand final since the late 90s unless you’re a high paying member of the competing clubs, have connections or you’re willing to fork out plenty of money (at least several hundred if not more) for a ticket. If you have AFL or MCC membership then you may be in luck as well.
Edit: it’s been a well known problem for 20 years.
There’s almost no chance that GF tickets ever go on sale to the gen public unless it was 2 interstate sides & they were desperate to get bums on seats that they can’t sell as corporate tickets. Basically there is only about 17K tickets allocated to the competing clubs & Richmond have have over 100K members so the vast majority miss out. Even GWS are listed at 30K members. Most seats are taken up by MCC, AFL & corporate tickets sold with packages at very inflated prices. If you want to go to a big game (outside ANZAC Day) then the prelims are for the footy purists. Even as far back as 93 my enjoyment of the win was a little tempered by the fact I was sitting near a group of mainly corporate seats that had little idea what was happening & why I was going so crazy!!!
Gees i hated that mongerel number 10 in that old Richmond lace up jumper, when he played us. Then he became our coach , and i worship the ground he stands on. Luvs ya Sheeds.
In 2000 I was lucky enough to “only” pay about $250 for my seat from a reseller in Darling Harbour Sydney
Top deck Ponsford end with all 100% hardcore Bombers - good times
but in 2001 my only option was to get one thru the Crows GF breakfast which I had no intention of attending
Surrounded by rubberneckers who all had their “I went to a GF hat” and had no idea about the game
Halfway thru the last qtr I cracked it and told them I personally knew 50 people who should be sitting in those seats rather than you privileged bunch of ■■■■■■
Worst day ever since 90
Simply an indictment of what a corporate wank the AFL had become even then
Way back in 84 my dad’s mate (who originally took me to Windy Hill when I was a kid) & got me supporting the Bombers from an early age. He and I scored 4 x tickets which were painted yellow footprints & a number on the concrete on the wing concourse. We each walked opposite directions around the G and sold two of them for $50 which gave us beer money for the day
@bomber001@JBOMBER Thanks for the replies. I’ve never really payed much attention to the way in which the tickets are displaced. Sounds like a pretty ordinary arrangement tbh.
Stunning, I got so lucky then. Had my dad trying for 3 tickets and he was still waiting after I got mine. Had friends trying to get it as well but they couldn’t get any
We usually line up too but it’s always my dad and I lining up from 2am trying to get 12 tickets and no one else helps. So this year I said ■■■■ yas, I’m just doing online and just getting my own. If anyone wants me to get them for them then I will but no guarantees.
And what do you know, had the best luck ever.
Now hopefully I can get that lucky when Essendon make one
