night grandfinal was a success.
all you grandpas need to go to bed after the 6pm news shouldn’t have a say.
Absolutely beyond belief they kept danger hidden in the forward line for so long

The widening chasm between the relative reputations of Dusty and Danger was illustrated so emphatically tonight.
Danger had his chance, and blew it big time.
Who knows if he gets another chance ?
Danger had his chance, and blew it big time.
nope.
he hid from it.
To be fair, he’s been very good as a forward in the Finals, and Guthrie/Menegola/Duncan/Selwood were holding their own in the middle.
Certainly, he needed to impose himself into the contest in the 3rd qtr.
For some reason it just didn’t happen.

Last time I checked kids liked footy, and they maybe might like to watch the grand final if their team is in it. Just saying.
And for what it’s worth, I think the 2:30 start time is a bit amateurish. But it is important for kids to be able to watch it. I’d have the bounce at 4/4:30 if I was scheduling it. You can still have your bbqs with mates, kids can watch, the ratings will be higher into the evening. Everybody wins
twilight footy is the worst.
Here’s a crazy idea…
Play the Grand Final during the day at 2.30pm.
I actually think there is too much of a disconnect between what you do that morning until the night game.
A day game fits perfectly between events.
Watch grand final marathon all night.
Sleep through the NM breakfast.
Get ready for the lunchtime BBQ.
Settle in for the pregame entertainment (okay it’s usually lame, but it’s better than nothing - almost).
Watch the game.
Have dinner afterwards.
It has a NFL Sunday football feel to it all day long.
The night game was just another game after the news.
Obviously…
The fireworks and atmosphere within the stadium pregame looked great on TV. But it just doesn’t beat the day game in front of a packed MCG.
Sydney afternoon on NRL GF day - pubs full of blokes on the booze , spike in domestic violence overnight,
The entire AFL has been hypnotised by the bullsht. We’re not watching football.
This. I only watched 5% of the grand final because I can’t bear to watch a match featuring Richmond.
I first noticed it in mid-2017, sitting live at the MCG (I can’t remember who was Richmond’s opponent, but it wasn’t Essendon)…anyway, I was alarmed by the grubby rule-stretching defensive tactics.
I have since written repeatedly about it, and I believe it is fundamental to their rise, but to save myself retyping, I’ll just selectively quote myself from February 2018, after our JLT match, because I was already fed up with it back then:
Sadly, yesterday’s match just reiterated what I felt after the grand final…that Richmond’s rise reflects a decay of the spectacle that is AFL football.
It’s a contact sport, but Richmond have exploited that by taking their defensive scragging and body-spoiling to the limit. Compare the free kick against Brown in the goal square for an inconsequential hand, versus the play on call when Long is in a full length body spoil sandwich. That’s what defence has become, off-the-ball body checking…
And offensively, Richmond do nothing spectacular, other than run, pressure, tackle. Just maintain higher tempo than your opponent. It leads to turnovers and overlapping waves of players. Not sophisticated, but effective…
I’m going to finish on a tangent…but the more I ponder it these days, I am feeling that top level soccer is overtaking AFL in terms of entertainment. The speed and attacking and scoring in soccer has increased over the last 20 years. And the rules allow the skilful players the space with the ball to show off their skills. The display of soccer is getting better. AFL is deteriorating, as the marking player is bullocked out of the game etc.
I’m actually of the opinion that AFL has been ‘cracked’ as a sport now…it’s past it’s peak, and will only get worse.
My 7yo now wants to change teams
I have the same problem with 8 yo and 5.
Seems like half the kids at school all barrack for Richmond… Arg…
Let them know that if they change teams, Santa won’t visit them anymore.
Just watched the game on delay as if it’s live. WTF is with the music after each goal?! Who thought that was even remotely a good idea? Jesus Christ!!!
the whole year was a joke
thats the worst “grand final week” ever. normally im really, really keen. Monday night brownlow. grand final parade. captains runs in front of 10k supporters.
then grand final day and what goes with it. Today was nothing to me. it felt like a fkn home and away game. (by the way how pathetic we’re them hippie losers for the entertainment. FMD that was a joke, but it is every year)
I dont care what anyone says - this years flag means nothing imo
