Josh Kelly is a free agent next year, I’d seriously be wanting to tempt him to come to Essendon, especially if Merret leaves, that guy is my dream player for us to sign, his disposal is so elite man, been unlucky with injuries but id seriously be willing to offer him 800k+ for him, can play inside, outside, wing, off half-back. The type of versatility we need and will only be 25-26 next year. Could allow us to move pidge on the wing, Zaka should retire, Hooker should leave, so we’ll have probs 3+million in cap space next year, we’ll need some experience to complement the young mids we are gonna have. Please Dodoro get my man in.

Jye Caldwell . Between us and the Saints . He was a mad keen Saints supporter as a kid . He all ready has an extensive history of injuries . So he is a good fit for either club .

Essendon is prepared to offer Jye Caldwell a five-season deal to lure him to the Dons as well as the centre-square opportunities to help him grow into an elite inside midfielder.

Caldwell is expected to make his decision about whether to leave GWS next week as the Saints and Essendon attempt to drag him out of the Giants.

Former GWS captain Phil Davis said Caldwell was the player at his club he would offer a 10-year deal to after his first impressive summer.

But he[ played only 11 games in his first two seasons at GWS )as a mid-forward and might struggle to get past Tim Taranto, Stephen Coniglio, Josh Kelly, Tom Green and Callan Ward for genuine midfield time next year.

St Kilda sees him as the perfect player to round out a midfield that will see Jade Gresham return from a back stress fracture next year after a semi-final exit.

They have also offered a long-term deal and are desperate to secure him.

But Essendon’s five-year offer shows how determined they are to shore up his future and they can offer as much opportunity as he wants to play as a pure inside midfielder.

He will [weigh up that chance to play alongside Zach Merrett, Andy McGrath and Dylan Shiel with the St Kilda offer and their likelihood of more immediate success.

Essendon could move into pole position in the race for a Giants young gun as the club prepares to make huge offer to the heavily-courted 11-game midfielder. Plus, which SA club is Orazio Fantasia likely to end up at? Get all the latest trade news

Essendon still doesn’t have an official trade request from Orazio Fantasia after Adelaide boss Adam Kelly said he wanted to come home on Monday.

Clubs believe Fantasia toured the Adelaide facilities over the weekend and is more likely to nominate Adelaide as his home.

Port Adelaide remains interested but has not had discussions with him over a potential trade.

But Adelaide is likely to have an array of draft picks, one of which would satisfy an Essendon side that would have lost him as a free agent next season.

The Power does not have a first-round pick after a trade with Brisbane but has a next generation academy midfielder Lachie Jones as a likely top-12 pick.

They have enough points to secure him with selections 26, 31, 42 and 51.

They will also attempt to bring in another mature key defender in the mould of Trent McKenzie with a later pick who they will hope to develop into an AFL regular.

WHY EDDIE’S NEW DEAL HAS BEEN DELAYED

Eddie Betts couldn’t guarantee he would be pulling on a jumper at Carlton in 2021 this week but his playing future is a done deal.

The Blues are a certainty to offer him a contract to play on but the holdup in his contract involves off-field matters.

Betts was to have worked on some of the club’s indigenous programs this year through their next generation academy but instead spent months in the hub.

He also has a slab of his contract tied up in the club’s additional services arrangement given his massive marketing pull.

The club is in no hurry to tie up the contract for those matters pushing into 2021.

But there is no danger of the club reneging on the deal for him to play on even if they could secure a Tom Papley-style forward.

So we balked at offering Saad a 5 year deal at the start of the season but we’re willing to offer it to Caldwell?
