To me it seems like this is a forced situation based on how they’ve managed list and cap. Tried all they could to get a flag, jamming Beams in, pushing back Treloars contract, and overpaying for Grundy, Cox etc.
Now they have both not won the flag but got themsleves in a jam that had no choice but to look to release the pressure
Parish seems pretty committed to the club and pretty close to our younger players. Plus with the bad run of injuries that seem to dog us, I don’t think we should be throwing him out.
people seem to want to bring in midfielders who want more midfield time, and assume the players here will just accept less midfield time.
parish is a midfielder who we’ve punished by playing him as a HFF. i can’t imagine he’d want to play that role his entire career.
as you say langford took off in that role playing more midfield this year, so him floating between mid/forward would surely also limit parish’s time in there.
like it or not, we are going to alienate one of the midfielders, and parish is the most likely one.
I imagine the only think stopping a more robust attempt to trade him out, is the constant noise around merrett leaving next year at worse.
One has to go I reckon, i’d rather it be parish, but if merrett wants out, trading out both would be dangerous.
We shouldn’t trade Parish as 90% of teams play less than best 22 every week every year, and there’s a need for depth. We don’t have midfield depth so we shouldn’t be seduced by a GWS mid who can’t get a game and a doggie who is down the pecking order.
We haven’t had midfield depth for 25 years and you guys want to sell it before we even get it. We have lost 4 players to create space and picks to trade in some talent.
No more good players going out please.
that’s one player, who hasn’t been there the majority of the last 2 years, parish wasn’t getting much gametime in there up til mid this season.
he would have
sheil, merrett, dunkley, caldwall, zaka, langford infront of him for midfield minutes.
people need to understand the difference between having depth that suits us as a club, and players not necessarily willing to accept that.
I mean we have a player potentially coming to us from the dogs who didn’t like his role, what makes people think parish is ok/happy with being a hff ??
To me with a full squad he is either playing the HFF/mid role which effectively is a midfielder role anyway with how the HFF pushes up around the contest and has some time also in the guts in rotations. Or when injuries hit he gets a main midfield role and someone else comes up from reserve to play the HFF/mid position, Snelling for example for those who don’t have him in best team.
Either way Parish is important & silly to consider trading
To be basing decision on where he fits in midfield within the best 22 and trading accordingly is not right as the best 22 is almost never on the park together and he still plays valuable role even if were
If dogs are into treloar. I can see a 3 way trade working out to secure dunks, Caldwell, nga’s, hind and maintain pick 6.
It would mean trading 7 and 8 to pies with the pies first round coming back and enough picks to secure Caldwell, the ngas and Hind Nigel ect
agree - looking at his stats for 2020 and comparing them to his midfielder team mates he did well with his forward play for goals kicked and goal assists.
