2020 trade spec part 4

Also per AFL rules, have to take 6 to the draft anyway. So its not like we are not getting a great young prospect anyway.

With 6,7 and 8 (possibly a future second as well) we are essential at a minimum getting a proven A grade Dunkley, a top prospect in Caldwell (who GWS are ■■■■■■ that we are grabbing) and the prospect we take at pick 6

Its a great result

Generally, as much as any manager can make it happen. Connors abilities are a bit of a myth on here.

Gonna be fun watching dunkley and treloar brushing aside our little mids racking up 40 each

Pickers has a pretty good strike rate

we can get dunkley in 2yrs time (maybe?) when he’s out of contract. or hell, someone else.

we’re not going to be anywhere near a flag in the next two years anyway so why not use the draft picks on kids, which we have neglected to do since 2016?

this is the gripe that almost everyone had with the club during the season while we were looking like ■■■■, yet trade period rolls around and everyone has shiny new object syndrone

We have a far greater need for KPP than for another midfielder who is only going to take time away from Shiel, McGrath and Parish.
The top of the draft is where you find good KPP. Think Roughead and Franklin. Riewoldt and Lynch. Riewoldt and Koschitzke.
You clappers are giving DODO a leave pass to burn our best chance in 20 years to build a spine.

In 2019, Dunkley (turned 22 y/o) averaged:

  • 5 clearances
  • 4 marks
  • 6 tackles
  • 28 disposals
  • 13 contested possessions

Jobe Watson (turned 27) at his peak in 2012 averaged:

  • 7 clearances
  • 4 marks
  • 4 tackles
  • 29 disposals
  • 14 contested possessions

Dunkley is the real deal. No arguments.

The gripe we had was not having a big bull on the inside

Even if there’s truth to that “plan” , surely he’s a rookie draft only?

Nah, Shiel better.

Dunkley is 23 and has at least 8-10 years of footy in front of him and is entering his prime you make it sound like we trading for a 26/27 year old

Or we are doing both

I would still like to walk away from this draft period with two top 10 picks, 1 top 20 pick, no future picks given away and Caldwell and 2MP.
That’s a good draft period.

You serious?
We have the opportunity to trade for a 23 yr old bloody good footballer and you want to turn that down, for the opportunity to trade for 3 x young guys that potentially haven’t played footy for year?

Yea give me Dunkley thanks and 1 of those kids

Cheers

This is so very right.

and yet i distinctly remember shiel being the answer to our midfield issues. 2 years on and we are up ■■■■ creek because we similarly sold the farm to get him.

So what you’re saying is you don’t want Dunkley.

For what it’s worth, if the cost is 2x first rounders, I’d also prefer we give it a miss and hit the draft hard.

Its scarier when you look at just his stats from round 6 onwards when he moved more inside:

6 clearances
4 marks
6.5 tackles
31.5 disposals
15 contested possessions

He also received 15 Brownlow votes across those 18 games

This, absolutely. You only need to watch him play to know he’d add a lot to us in an area we need help.

Good luck with that, in this thread
