Assuming this is not a different Nick, spelling seems to be Nic for the kid training with us, but if so looks pretty classy. Not sure we don’t already have his type covered but he seems to get up the ground a bit, has mobility and good kick

As I suspected, our chances to get more later picks were tied to our first round pick.
When Howes was available, it wasn’t worth trading down.
Trying to get extra picks after that meant we had to give up picks next year which we weren’t willing to do.
We gambled in the hope that one of a handful of players would make it to our pick and 3 of them went in the pick right before ours.
Regardless, I think we’re okay with Lord.
One thing I’d like us to do more often is offer a rookie pick (or the last pick in the draft if warranted) to our best performing VFL player every year.
It could be a great incentive to get players through our VFL system without having to pay any extra salary cap.
Geelong have done it well in the past and the Bulldogs seem to have shifted to that model in the last four years or so.
It doesn’t need to pay off every year, but surely picking up VFL players who have had a year to predominantly get to know the players on the team and your team system as well as the ‘pathway’ to AFL incentive would be of great benefit to both the player and the team.
Johnson and Sonsie would of been a decent trade down for pick 13
If we traded back to 17 & 28.
almost would have then traded 17 to 23 & 26 hawks get Johnson
23 Sonsie
26 Motlop
28 Howes /Draper
then traded 46,50 out for future picks
Interesting that article suggested we had offered up a future 1st + 11 for pick 2 - then at our actual pick Blake Howes was the next in line behind Hobbs.
Given that we rated him at our 1st pick, it’s bizarre we didn’t give up a future 1st/2nd for Howes given he slid to 39. Needs two teams to tango etc, but surely we would have one club bite on a future 2nd to nab Howes.
I reckon we would have done it if Hobbs wasn’t the player. Of course, we probably wouldn’t have gotten that offer if Hobbs wasn’t the player, either.
The way I see it, we were planning in case one of the top rated players didn’t slide and we would have traded pick 13 with Tigers or Hawks and then aimed to pick howes with a pick in the 20’s.
AD is on record saying we tried everything to trade our future 2nd for a 2nd this year.
Surprised they didn’t take that pretty good offer from Richmond, there was still plenty of quality around in Johnson and sonsie etc. That being said hobbs could be rated very highly.
Martin looks to have zero leg speed which might see him struggle at afl level.
Considering Richmond were prepared to offer all that for Hobbs then yes, he was rated highly. If they rated him that high to give all that up, then it shouldn’t be a surprise we rated him that highly not to accept all of that. Pretty simple really.
Geez you pop up everywhere having a sook if anybody questions the draft and what other options we could have taken. Anyhow there was a bit of that, but also Richmond had a shitload of picks so could afford to make big offers for targeted players. We on the other hand only had one pick in the top 50 and stated numerous times we wanted to get into the second round, so it was a good offer.
What’s the sook? You made a comment and I made a comment discussing the same thing. I thought that was the point in a discussion?
Your condescending tone and full nuffie defence of the club whenever anything is questioned seems to indicate anything but wanting to engage in a civil discussion.
How about you just deal with the discussion instead of telling me how i should behave?
You made a comment and I made a comment back. No defence of the club was given, just stating my opinion that it seemed obvious. That sort of thing is allowed you know, you do it all the time as well. You declare what the club thinks all the time. So stop your own sooking and just address the points.
Wait, who’s the Bully in this argument?
Me - they’re both shmucks
If you can use the correct “they’re” then you rule the universe (or at least Blitz).
Grammar Nazi’s think there so superior. Their’s no need for that on a football forum.
Grammar Nazis. It’s not possessive.
