Maybe he’s just keeping himself employed by influencing Dodoro into not picking anymore KPF’s!
Jones is emerging as a really interesting character within this new cultural launch at the Club. You sense there is something very special about the young bloke. He could be a beloved champion of Essendon some day.
I work with a lot of people his age, many of which are go-getting up-and-coming professionals. I can tell you this, I’ve never seen anyone his age even consider putting their hand up to do something like this. Especially when there are many many colleagues in his group far more senior to him.
I’m not sure how the dynamics of a footy club really works. From that clip you heard a good deal of blokey ribbing by the players. Feel like no one is allowed to get too big a head on them and are quickly pegged back with banter.
Just guessing, but I sense it takes a strong character in that environment, especially from someone as junior as him, to put himself out there in front of him mates to do that.
as @rtbc said it suggests there’s something special about Jones. He’s not unique in that respect as we have a few on our list. But he’s clearly announced he’s one of them.
See, to me it says the kid is looking at what he may do post-football and is putting into place small steps in order to address that future goal whilst balancing his current workload and building his skillset. Exactly what I try to teach my clients.
He’s a smart kid. It will serve him well regardless of what he ends up doing in life.
I agree that it shows initiative & commitment on his part but I wondered at the appropriateness of it as he’s not yet even in the leadership group. I couldn’t help but think that if they’re to have a player sit in on interviews then maybe it should be Hepp or Merrett or another ‘senior’ player. Or that a process to select a player rep is undertaken rather than a self nomination.
Potential draftees would have felt comfortable with having someone 2 years senior and personally known, rather than a “legend” of the club sitting in the interview panel. That could be a planned interview strategy not to intimidate kids.
yes if it’s trading a player in and leadership group likely having them out for coffee.
but unless your north, Heppell shouldn’t have to be selling the club to draftees.
Jones was the one who wanted to do it and initiated it. good on him for being brave and asking the question and then learning a thing or two.
I actually expect him to be back next year to the war room as he still would have connections with the 2022 draft players.
He needs to work on his whiteboard photo leaks though, mozzie was good at that.
How much do we pay our recruiters?
I would imagine that is going to change pretty soon with his attitude. I reckon this is great.
Pretty sure dodoro lives for the interviews and trying to make the kids uncomfortable
X should be looking over his shoulder…
X can’t, Jones is too tall.
Tigers offered at 17 & 28 for 13. We knocked it back
Those who had been teeing off on Disco and co for not getting the two picks inside top 30, we had at least one opportunity here but it wasn’t worth doing so given who had slid & our own needs.
…
We also it appears had offered pick 11 and a future 1st for GWS’s pick 2 and nab Callaghan! Wow!
I’m likely a step behind current chat … and Tex is no new news. But this on potential interest in Nic Martin caught my Bomber eye??
Also suggests that if we didn’t get Ben Hobbs we were keen on Blake Howes who slid right down the draft.
Might have been only if we had traded down and hit him with a later 1st.
Interesting to see how he goes though. Other teams had him a possible top 20 and Dees got him at 39 which could be steal of draft or he dropped for a reason
Given the players that were still dropping down however can certainly see why no clubs were keen to trade out of their positions for the majority of the draft
It also says that we were otherwise likely going to take Howes at pick 13, who ended up sliding all the way to pick 39!
Such a shame we couldn’t trade up around that point of the draft to get him, especially given how highly we clearly rated him.
Still, we must’ve really viewed Hobbs as a genuine elite talent, otherwise we could’ve traded back and still managed to get Howes, whilst also securing that second rounder we were after.
Love that we backed ourselves, happy with the players we picked, but I’m still disappointed we were leapfrogged by other clubs later on in the draft.
Doesn’t look like it was ever a chance though, considering Richmond offered pick 7 and a future first, and that got knocked back.
