2021 Mid Season Draft

Is that write up on Kolar from 2020? It references Adelaide having first pick in the MSD. Plus it refers to him debuting in last year’s NAB league, and obviously that wasn’t going ahead last year.

I think we need depth for small-medium. But I’m not sure if we do for tall-medium. That’s the range which Lav, Ridley and Francis could cover.

Heppell is elite, does Baker have Heppell’s agility? And IMO, if anything, I think one of Heppell’s current problems is being put on guys who are more agile than he is.

We may only have 5-6 list spots between the MSD, ND and RD (Clarke, Gleeson, Cutler, Zaha are obvious, then Hooker, Ambrose, Mozzie, Johnson as maybes). I’m not sure if this type of depth is a high enough need.

referencing Adelaide having first pick in the Preseason draft last year (2020).

So it is from 2020 then, before the rookie draft.

There’s also the six month vs 18 month contract length to consider.
Someone like Snelling, an older player you could run up to speed and try in a few games late in the season, would be worth a six month deal.
A younger player, with no real prospect of playing Firsts this year, is probably going to be an 18 month deal, and take a list spot next year.

So roughly speaking it’s both needs and, in the case of an 18 month deal someone who’d go higher than our 4th or 5th pick next year - 4th Rounder?

I’d like an immediate impact type and then max out any remaining picks with 6 month high risk reward types.

Get them into an afl environment, see if they can address any flaws, drop them at the end of the year if they can’t make the transition. Minimal downside. Massive upside.

Hasn’t played any footy so far this year, maybe getting hidden by a club but I don’t think that makes much sense. He is an athletic key forward that has good upside by very much a long term player like Eyre

After analysing the 300 Nominees I would punt on Cody Raak (Western Jets). Can play back and forward…might even surprise playing midfield. Good height at 192cm / 80kg…trained at the dogs as an NGA so would have good professionalism.

If we are after a small forward I would hope that Will Papley (Gippsland Power) (brother of) would be the player we look at…he is feisty like his brother too.

Are they wanting to say ‘partial to’ maybe?

I’m disinterested in this objection.

What usually happens: everyone on this forum comes to a consensus to the type of player we should be getting…

and then Adrian picks a player who plays a position we don’t need.

Most notably a ruckman, half-back flank, or Key position defender.

Dodo picked exactly who we wanted in the draft.

@THE_DON1, any info on Arundell from metro, comes from the same local club as Sonsie in this years national draft.
Pick him up just for the buddy system?

Nippy little small forward and emphasis on the ‘little’. Personally think he lacks a few more tricks at this stage to be looked at but might find his way in a few years after he gets some VFL under his belt

LOL, right. This is blitz.

 I laughed when I read that.

Blitz and consensus in one sentence…

@THE_DON1 or anyone else, is Sam Lowson (Coburg forward) on anyone’s radar for mid-season, has he nominated?

If we can snag Cody in mid season draft were effectively getting a top 20 pick for rookie draft price

Would we take Edward’s if he fell to our pick.
