The hanger that Hill took last year was incredible. Combine that with his goal sense and he has the outline of a really talented small forward.

Their stats are pretty similar and Stengel has come off a 45ish goal season in the SANFL. Hill hasn’t really been quite performing to expectations.

I can see Stengel getting his ■■■■ together and becoming an elite small forward. I can also see it all falling apart.

I can see Hill working out how to take the next step, I can also see him plateauing into a solid-mediocre player.

Both players have risks. Both players cost a list spot. One costs 2-3x the salary and requires us to lose picks. The other we pick up for nothing.

I’ll be happy with Hill on good trade terms. I’d also be happy with Stengel. My SLIGHT preference is Stengel, assuming the recruiting staff are comfortable he’s matured.

Stengle will probably end up at Geelong where he can reconnect with Eddie. I think we’ll be 50/50 for Hill. Definitely fits another need for us. No world beater but better than we’ve got (Walla notwithstanding) and who we have delisted. Fingers crossed we don’t pay too much for the fella.

Family Reasons.
GWS must let him go, precedent set a few years back…

I mean yeah I understand that all pickups are risks - it just seems to me that the prior talent plus the off-field issues suggests that Hill has much less risk, and as far as I can see the ceiling probably isn’t that much different. So it’s lower risk with equal reward. I’m not saying giving up a first rounder or anything for Hill but I think he’s probably the better pickup regardless of the fact that you have to trade for him.

I think it’s probably a moot point anyway - by the looks of things Stengle is going to the Cats and Hill is leaning towards nominating us, so only time will tell which was the right call.

Geelong won’t take stengle they’re stacked with small forwards

They are lacking forward pressure and the small forwards they have suck.

Though like GWS, their game plan really hasn’t suited small forwards at all
