GIANT BOMBSHELL: GWS plans to land star Hawk AND Lobb

GREATER Western Sydney is working towards a plan that will fit both Rory Lobb and Chad Wingard under its tight salary cap, having identified the Hawthorn star as a shock trade target.
The Giants would likely require Lobb to follow through in reducing his hefty $700,000 per year wages, in addition to the Hawks paying a significant chunk of Wingard’s salary, but remain hopeful separate deals can be struck.
Hawthorn has ample salary cap room and would be able to fork out a portion of Wingard’s wages for the remaining two years of his contract, though would likely request a premium draft pick in return to help kickstart the club’s rebuild under new coach Sam Mitchell.
It could see the Hawks ask for pick No.13 in exchange for Wingard, though any deal would hinge on the Giants convincing the player of a move to a third AFL club. On Friday, he posted the ‘I’m not f***ing leaving’ clip from the movie Wolf of Wall Street on Instagram.
Hawthorn has made a host of its experienced players readily available during this year’s Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, with Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O’Meara, Jack Gunston and Wingard’s names all floated.
GWS is believed to have homed in on Wingard after fellow small forward Bobby Hill requested a trade to Essendon over the weekend, identifying the classy 28-year-old as a potential replacement.
The club had already sounded out Lobb for a stunning return, three seasons after he left for Fremantle. Talks between the Giants and the Dockers progressed amicably late last week, with a trade likely to be hashed out before Wednesday’s deadline.

Lobb has two seasons to run on a lucrative contract in Western Australia, but his manager Colin Young confirmed last week that the 207cm forward would take a pay-cut to make the move happen.
INDICATIVE DRAFT ORDER Your club’s picks as they stand
Wingard has played just 47 games across three seasons for Hawthorn, having already made one bombshell trade from Port Adelaide – where he was a two-time All-Australian – at the end of the 2018 season.
This makes me think they will move Hill to us after the usual back and forth
i refuse to believe unless fabrizio romano is tweeting about it.
If GWS bring in Lobb and Wingard they probably will need to move more money
Has Ralph still got the Bomber jumper we gave him? Is it in a bag in his attic, or did he sell it on EBAY , because he never manages to write about us without sticking a knife in, not as a sting in the tail, but full on up front. Its a wonger he didnt regurgitate something about the saga.
There is no way that McCartney will trade Hill unless they get overs for him. He was a second round pick, has now had 3 years of development and is contracted. McCartney will ask for a future second and third round pick and Dodoro has started with a third round pick.
I don’t see it happening. I said the same thing about Dunkley, Caddy and Martin. Shiel was the only one we got because we paid overs.
I agree the players shouldn’t be able to nominate just one club, but I also don’t agree with nominating a city. That’s too much advantage to Non-Victorian clubs, because they could have up to 10 clubs making an offer to a player whereas Victorian clubs with players wanting to leave could only have up to 2 clubs.
I think it would be better to say the player has to nominate 2 clubs
I think he is spot on.
Enough of players demanding to go to a set club if they arent eligible FA’s.
Look at Kelly… wanted to go to WA from Geelong, but only to West Coast as he didn’t want to play for a bottom 8 club in Freo as he thought it would be going backwards.
F- right off!
Why is Dawson dictating to play for Adelaide… he isn’t a free agent and shouldn’t get a choice.
Each state has 2 clubs. Get bidding wars happening. If the club you want to go to, isn’t prepared to beat the other, clearly they dont rate you.
Yeah. I think it will get done purely because the currency isn’t as great as other deals that fell over
And GWS seem like they may actually end up being motivated sellers.
But by nominating a city, don’t they do that anyway?
Port v Adelaide
Syd v GWS
Bris v GC
WC v Freo
There are more victorian players which would balance that out. More clubs bidding but also more players coming back to melbourne.
Someone needs to mention to Sen and Trade Radio that the friction between McCartney and Dodoro actually began when the Dogs offered pick 38 for Crameri - who’d been our leading goalkicker - and ■■■■■■ two weeks against the wall being ■■■■■ about it.
What if they’re moving to Melbourne?
If Wingard is off to GWS, why wouldn’t the hawks take a look at Hill?
And why wouldn’t Hill take a look at Hawthorn?
So the player has to nominate two clubs. Club one offers the player $100k a year but pick 20. Club two offers pick 30 but $300k. And what, the player loses $200k because their current club wants the better pick?
Dodoro holding out for pick 26 and then picking Merrett would not have made McCartney feel the best about himself.
If they’re coming to Melbourne anyone over 28 just needs to nominate Geelong
Because they are prioritising the draft to fast track their rebuild.

If Wingard is off to GWS, why wouldn’t the hawks take a look at Hill?
And why wouldn’t Hill take a look at Hawthorn?
Because Hill nominated Essendon.
