Cal reckons Munkara is likely to be available post-40. Good signs. Always easy to get rapt up with one player and forethought there’s a host of others in that range clubs will prefer
I dont get it.
i’m in the belief that you need a mix of experenced players and draftees when rebuilding a list.
We get rid of the likes of shiel, stringer, langford, lav etc we are ■■■■■■
There are no gurantees the draftees can replace those players
Yeh agreed. They may not be the most ideal experience we could foster. But selling the farm out from the club for a rebuild gets you North Melbourne.
The current approach will work better in the long imo. Means we won’t be overpaying youngsters to reach cap floors either
Cal saying that if we pick Phillipou or Humphrey, Tsatas could slip as far back as pick 9.
He seems confident that we’ll go Tsatas, but we are definitely keen on Phillipou.
Yep exaclty
when guys likes hobbs, perkins etc reach 24-25 age with about 100 games of experince thats whe you can start moving on some of the older players.
Yep. Interstate clubs view Tsatas as a flight risk apparently
This years Hobbs
When they have no value???
Couldnt care if they no value
Hmm North Melbourne should be wary of Wardlaw then too imo. I’ve heard he gets inter-suburban homesickness. Can’t handle travelling too far from Tullermarine.
I totally agree with you (clearly I didn’t convey my sarcasm strongly enough in my original post).
Shiel and Stringer right now have more value to us on our list than any second rounder we could get in exchange for them.
So rather trade out a player or 2 of value to build a better team, we just stay average.
We’re looking down the barrell of adding 6 first rounders in 2ish years, plus Jayden and Munkara that are of likely equal quality (with an asterix). There’s no need to start selling the farm, nor will Jakey or Shiel net us anything of significant worth anyway. It’s not residing ourselves to average, it’s balancing the team for development. The list is already choc fill of younger developing players for most positions. Throwing them in the deep end wont help. The rest is patience and hope.
Trading out Parish in a year could be conceivable depending on the development of Perko, Hobbs etc.
If we could then 21 players would have been delisted after the 2022 Round 1 game against Geelong!!!
Yes it is. We are average at best.
Yep, and they will be crying to go home to mummy in 2 years.
Has yet to happen with Zerk-Thatcher & Redman.
So maybe not.
Oh I misunderstood. Yes we are average at the moment and that’s to put it kindly. But that’s not going to be solved by selling off guys like Shiel and Stringer? It’s a longterm vision and what Nino and I are saying is that you need those bugger experienced bodies still in the team as an effective approach to development. They are worth more to us in that regard than the pocket change we coukd get for them in a trade
The big problem that we have seen, especially under Worsfold…. That the senior players are simply not up to standard, and the younger players are missing out on opportunities to play.
How long did we persist with Matt Dea & Mcneice, instead of getting games into Ridley (who was our best player in the VFL) & Redman. Or picking Zac Clark ahead of Draper.
Stringer & Shiel still need to perform…… otherwise might aswell get games into 19 & 20 year olds.
