if youre doing that you need like 3-4 role players of liam bakers quality
De Goey & Stringer rotate. De Goey playing 60% midfield & Stringer playing 40% midfield.
Langford on the wing, and pushes forward.
Perkins a pure midfielder… Hopefully.
I’ve been deadset against getting De Goey.
But with Stringer’s continued injury problems, and our lack of size at the contest and our forwardline issues…. The idea is growing on me.
I just have concerns that DeGoey and Stringer wouldn’t work in the same team…… but I don’t think We’ll see a fully fit Stringer again.
Stringer having the ability to play more forward will help him. He obviously needs to watch his weight too.
I don’t think he can play 3-4 more years like he did in 2021. His body can’t handle it. Him being able to rotate with De Goey is a great thing.
Brayshaw is a free agent costs nothing
Robertson well he might be interested, but we cna hardly guarantee game time. we might get one of Wardlaw/Tsatas in the draft. Prefer to keep Parish personally over another top 3 pick which could be a Parish.
Stringer has strength and X factor and is the type of player that could play on until; he is 34 if he wants too and his body is able.
If we get Degoey then we have to go for Dunkley too.
For a side that allready struggles to run and apply defensive pressure we will absolutely get torched by adding Degoey to this lineup.
Get hard for Dunkley too to offset that issue and I think we are set.
Its a shame they are going to be 26/27 before next year though.
A lot would need to change for Jake to play until he is 34. A LOT.
Essendon lineup with Brayshaw and Degoey Free agents (it won’t happen, forget De Goey)
B: McGrath Laverde Reid
hb: Redman Ridley Hind
c: Langford Brayshaw Martin
hf: DeGoey Jones Stringer
f: Snelling Wright Wanganeen
R: Draper Parish Merrett
Int: Caldwell, Hobbs, Perkins, Cox
Sub: Davey
Emg: (pick 3 Wardlaw)
I know we have a lot of cap space right now, but it is hard to imagine being able to afford two players of the calibre of De Goey, Brayshaw or Dunkley. Even without Hurleys wage and some of Shiel’s wage on the books.
Edit…forgot Walla, perhaps we can
B: McGrath . Reid . Laverde
HB: Cox . Ridley . Merrett (C)
C: Martin . De Goey . Langford
HF: Stringer . Jones . Snelling
F: Perkins . Wright . Wanganeen
Foll: Draper . Caldwell . Parish
I/C: Bryan . Ashcroft . Hobbs . Redman
We already have a huge amount.
We are about to lose half of Shiel’s salary, and Hurley will retire.
Heppell might retire too. That is a huge amount.
Yeah and I just edited my post to include Walla, perhaps we can.
oh so parish is leaving?
We would have been lining up for Ben King with $1mil+
Missed him.
And then will have unexpectedly lost Walla, likely Smith negotiated payout and Shiel likely traded and most of $ off the books.
And Heppell might not be offered contract/go on either.
We will have plentttttyyyyy
Dunno where is the Smith retiring meme is coming from but it’s fantasy. We’re stuck with him till the bitter end.
Didn’t Melbourne traded up to get in front of us?
Oh Nino. Poor innocent Nino.
Strong rumour on Taranto I’ve heard
I was under impression that we were deciding between Parish and Oliver and then Melbourne traded up to get him?
How could we have got Oliver when he went a pick before us?
