2022 trade speculation (Part 2)

Don’t even get me started on what we should have done last year (for picks this year).
I’ve been told in no uncertain terms that no club was interested in anything we possibly could have offered, and that we didn’t need magic points anyway.

We’d be very lucky to get any compo for Hepp at all.

I remember Carlton got nothing for Waite, who went on to play some good footy for North.

In which case I feel like Heppell might be amenable to working out a trade instead.
Hypothetically.

Obviously he would be under no obligation to do that.

TRIPLE Hawthorn premiership wingman Isaac Smith will move to play for Geelong.

In a stunning move to begin free agency on Friday morning, the 31-year-old indicated he wanted to play for the Hawks’ arch-rivals.

As an unrestricted free agent, Smith is free to walk to the Cats and has accepted a two-year deal. Hawthorn receives a third-round compensation pick (currently No.42) in return.

(this seems pretty recent and comparable.)

That offer from Suns is so good Hepp should stand down this week. Final game for Hepp.

Then next week final game for Hurls

Brisbane is the club we need to be trying to do some sort of a deal with to get there first rounder as it’s going to be eaten up by an Ashcroft bid very early, If there was a way we could sneak in two quality picks before a Davey bid and walk away with another three good players it would help set us up for a long time on top of hobbs Perkins Reid Cox and co

yeh no thanks

Dawks got pick 42 for a 31 year old Smith leaving

Hypothetical trade

Essendon 9,19
Gold Coast 6
Brisbane 32, 41, 50

Ess IN: 9 + 19 out 6 +41
Brisbane In: 32, 41, 50 Out: 19
GC: IN: 6 Out: 9, 32, 50

leaves us with 9,19,23 all hopefully before Davey Bid

or even split 23 for points if needed.

Would certainly be a part time playing role with Kennedy, he will be in the recovery group every week. At least the blokes coming back from injury will know how to rehab properly

I personally would rather us bring in a top end talent over 2 late first round/early 2nd round talents.

Good grief

I like this kind of thinking…but…I think BRIS will get better offers for their first rounder.

I was thinking this way two years ago.
Whether it be Selwood, Pendlebury…
And then last year that seemed like it would have been a terrible idea.
This year…not so much.
I’m far less keen on the idea for next year, at least for a midfielder.

I think the idea of getting a good honest older leader in almost any other position has merit.
Not worth throwing everything out the window to get, but worth considering if there’s an opportunity.

Kennedy can’t get in the park and can barely run these days, 1mil fir Selwood would be madness.

We need leadership but boy oh boy there’s better ways

I specifically said not a midfielder.
If Heppell left, McGrath would fill his role.

To narrow down who you’re after, you’d look at our list and say, right…
Who’s in our current 22 that I don’t want to be there, and whose role we are okay with holding back younger players that have aspirations on it for eighteen months.

And then you look for a player from another team in that position who will drive onfield standards.

The two positions you could probably justify getting an old experienced head into the team from another club would be key back or half forward.

I like Shannon Hurn but we probably already have a heap of half backs or undersized talls.
