2022 trade speculation (Part 3)

We seem to be trying to change it by targeting Dunkley, Degoey and Setterfield?

zac bailey is a forward. not sure why you listed him

harmes, gulden, rowbottom, Graham, berry are role players. they are hardly better/more important than say shiel, merrett & parish.

Bailey will be playing midfield next year.

I would take Gulden or Bailey over anyone in our midfield. They are going to be studs. They do more with 20 touches than any of our mids do with 30.

Brisbane, Melbourne, Richmond and Sydney are all well run clubs. We aren’t. Unfair comparison.

People want us hunting brand names but the reality is that our big name trades have not been massive hits - Shiel, Stringer (great player, never put it together consistently).

Our best trade in recent memory was a moneyball trade for a guy who couldn’t get a game for Gold Coast ffs.

The reality is that, given where our list is, we need to be building through the draft for the next couple of years. Big name players require the sacrifice of draft capital and that’s not a place we should be playing.

Go hard at the draft this year and next, add some moneyball selections (see Setterfield) and then target big name FAs (ideallly) or trade to plug list gaps.

Everyone wants a quick fix but for once it seems our club (or at least Scott) is willing to do this the right way.

your doing a alex, and just taking the contrary view for arguments sake

i mean i get you dont rate our midfield, but no one (literally, no one) would take Gulden or Bailey over Merrett

A lot of people would.

Because of age you would have to give it serious consideration.

He is a potential star.

But it’s a fantasy anyway so no point worrying about it.

They wouldn’t, lol come on man - Merrett is a gun. but anyway, its all about setterfield now

No. They would. You obviously have not watched a lot of Gulden.

Zac Merrett would win a brownlow in Sydney’s midfield.

I think he’s a depth player ….BBM…….if you compare him to Brodie end of last year before he went to Freo; I’d say he’s a better prospect than Brodie

Merrett polled more brownlow votes than anyone in the second half of the year last year

he’s a multiple All Australian, Multiple B&F winner.

Im not saying gulden (or bailey) aren’t good, im saying merrett is a farking gun

I get that your jaded and burnt out from a decade of mediocrity but your judgement’s becoming genuinely ■■■■■■ :upside_down_face:

Anyone able to catch me up on the Setterfield trade? How are we linked? Is it rumour or a good as done, waiting for other trades type scenario?

Media saying its a formality, Francis out Setters in.

blues initially bid on Setterfield back in 2016 draft so they must have wanted him back then like us.
They ended up with Petrevski-Seton.

Setterfield has some attributes which will improve our midfield.
Lays big tackles, good with ball in hand, good decision maker. Can rest forward.

Carlton won’t give Setterfield another contract. They don’t need him at all.

He’d be a fantastic DFA, but we’ll blink first and hand over a third rounder. Which I guess is what Sydney will do for Francis, so it works out.

Or they actually wanted to keep their contracted player as they saw him as important while they were in the premiership window.

They wouldn’t have done the deal with anyone 2 years ago, and don’t even want to do it now, but might be forced to because he’s now uncontracted
