No Redman?
Or did I miss something that happened today?
Fark major omission
B - Redman BZT Massimo
Mcgrath Laverde Ridley
C - Durham Parish Hobbs
F - Perkins Weideman Martin
Menzie Wright Tippa
Foll - Draper Setterfield Merrett
INT - Caldwell, Sheil, Jones, Langford
Sub - Kelly
E - Davey, Stringer, Bryan, Baldwin, Cox, Guelfi, Heppell, Hind
Really tempted to play Weiderman as CHB in place of Lav & Jones @ CHF. Might need another small in the forwardsā¦someone speedy, not sure, Kelly the obvious sub to release Redman or McGrath as both are flexible in case of injury. Canāt find a possie for the captain
I would like to see.
McGrath, BZT, laverde
Hind, Ridley,Redman
Martin, setterfield,Durham
Walla,weideman,stringer
Menzies,2MP, Jones
Draper,Merrett,parish
Shiel ,Heppell,Massimo, perkins Caldwell.
Emerg. Langford Kelly,davey
Heppell is only in if he is skipper otherwise Davey replaces him in the 23
For round 1
B - Kelly Laverde BZT
HB - Redman Ridley Mcgrath
C - Hepp Setterfield Martin
HF -Durham Jones Menzie
F - Stringer Wright Walla
R - Draper Merrett Parish
I/C - Hind Perkins Caldwell Shiel
Davey (Sub)
Emg - Davey, Langford, Weideman, VOSS
Langford, needs to perform against the suns and it makes it harder.
That alone would be a terrible reason to select him.
Interesting first crack at this for the year. Think round 1 will look something like:
Kelly Zerk-Thatcher Laverde
Redman Ridley McGrath
Martin Parish Durham
Snelling Weideman Perkins
Stringer Wright Guelfi
Draper Shiel Merrett
Heppell Setterfield Menzie Langford McDonald-Tipungwuti (Sub)
Emerg - Hind DāAmbrossio Jones Bryan
Injured/underdone: Caldwell/Hobbs
Iād personally probably start Jones per Weid but I think they will give him first crack and heāll provide ruck support as well.
It will be a close call Weideman vs Jones
from reports the probable forwardline yesterday was
hf: Davey Weideman Stringer
f: Menzie Wright Walla
But then Jones kicked a few goals for the possibles team and Weideman was quiet.
It will be interesting to see this year if we ever run with all of Draper, Weideman, Jones, 2MP and Stringer.
I can see a case for it but youād need to have your small forwards firing and super committed to defensive pressure work.
When Draper is having a spell on the pine and Weideman goes into the ruck it means we would still have enough of an aerial presence in the forward line with 2MP, Jones & Stringer.
When Draper is rucking one of Jones, Weideman and Stringer could be rotated through the interchange at any given time. 2MP is fit enough and important enough to play the whole match.
Round 1 at first attempt.
Kelly, Laverde, Redman
Mass, Ridley, McGrath
Martin, Setterfield, Durham
Langford, Jones, Perkins
Stringer, Wright , Tippa
Draper, Parish, Merrett
Int: Shiel , Heppell, Menzie , Bryan
Sub: Hind.
Problem solved
Without Mitch Lewis available maybe this could be what they go with down back (i.e. no Zerk and make Kelly play tall).
They do have some tall boys the Hawks but none of great quality.
A lot of 22s without Menzie, think that will change after the practice matches.
Think Weiderman has to play so we have a back up ruck. Difficult one. Wright didnāt play well last year when forced to ruck.
Or maybe Brian plays?
Pre practice match round 1 lineup:
B: Redman - Laverde - Kelly
HB: McGrath - Ridley - Massimo
C: Martin - Setterfield - Durham
HF: Perkins - Jones - Guelfi
F: Stringer - Wright - Tippa
R: Draper - Zerrett - Parish
INT: Shiel - Menzie - Davey - Heppell
Sub: Hind
Not selected: Weideman - Langford -Zerk-Thatcher -Snelling
Not available: Caldwell/Hobbs
- Big call on Langford but his pre-season hasnāt been there, unless Iāve missed something?
- Zerk plays if Lewis was playing for the Hawks
- Jones gets the nod over Weideman to start
- Massimo gets the nod over Hind due to his kicking skills, Hind the sub
- Menzie been in good form, itās rewarded over Snelling
- Parish/Shiel/Zerrett rarely works together, so Shiel rotates with Parish and Zerrett with Setterfield the clearance winner on the inside.
- Davey debuts with the instruction to cause forward pressure
Iād run something like this assuming Walla can get up. If not, Guelfi comes in.
McGrath, Zerk, Kelly
Redman, Ridley, Lav
Martin, Parish, Durham
Stringer, Jones, Perkins
Menzie, 2MP, Walla
Draper, Merrett, Shiel
Setterfield, Caldwell, Langford / Heppell, Mass / Hind
Sub Guelfi
Line up looks so much better with two genuine small forwards. Itās a reasonably balanced team. Pretty workmanlike but will win some games.
Would love Tsatas, Hobbs, Reid, Cox, Davey etc to be pushing into it by mid year (off the back of form not injury).
B: Ridley BZT McGrath
HB: Hind Lav Ambrosio
C: Durham Redman Martin
HF: Stringer Jones Perkins
F: Menzie Wright Tippa
R: Draper Parish Merret
I/C: Shiel, Setterfield, Davey, Caldwell, Voss.
Letās stop listing these sides. The more I see it the more I realise how hopelessly our defensive six and forward six are. 2MP is the only decent player out of all 12 of them.
Is Bryan meant to be BZT?
Cant fit them all in so have left out Cox, Caldwell, Davey, Hind, Guelfi, Hobbs & Snelling. Iād go with;-
Ridley Zerk Kelly
Redman Lav McGrath
Heppell Setterfield Durham
Martin Stringer Perkins
Jones 2MP Tippa
Draper Parish Merrett
Bench: Langford Shiel Massimo Menzie
SUB: Weideman
